Warm meals for people in the Lao Bao flood-affected area

In the late afternoon of September 13, many residential areas in Lao Bao commune, Quang Tri province were still submerged in floodwaters. In Trieu Phuoc village, water flooded into the 1st floor of 2-story houses in some places. Many families had to leave their homes and go to neighbors' houses in high locations or flood shelters within the premises of Lao Bao Prison.

On flooded roads, Lao Bao commune officials and officers and soldiers of Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station wear life jackets, use boats to transport rice, drinking water, and instant noodles to residential areas.

Ms. Nguyen Kim Anh, residing in Trieu Phuoc village, said that when her house was deeply flooded, the forces of Lao Bao Commune People's Committee, border guards, police, and military supported her family to relocate property. Her family then went to the flood shelter in the campus of Lao Bao Prison.

On the same evening, a working delegation of the commune led by Mr. Tran Binh Thuan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Lao Bao commune visited, encouraged and presented nearly 20 meals and drinking water to the people.

In difficult times, receiving rice, water and support in moving assets, I am very touched" - Ms. Nguyen Kim Anh shared.

Leaving the shelter, the delegation continued to board boats to Trieu Thanh and Trieu Long villages. About 100 servings of rice, filtered water and instant noodles were delivered to flood-affected households.

At the same time, Mr. Tran Anh Vu - Chairman of Lao Bao Commune People's Committee and officers and soldiers of Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station also directly went into flooded areas.

The rain has stopped, but many roads are still flooded. Small boats have become a means for functional forces to sneak into each residential area. Thanks to being prepared and transported urgently, meals when they reach people are still warm.

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Le Luan - Political Commissar of Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station said that rising floodwaters have prevented many households from cooking, and there is also a shortage of clean water. Faced with that situation, the unit has connected philanthropists, organized 500 meals with drinking water and coordinated with local authorities to transfer them to flooded households.

After the policy was issued, cooking and preparing food were quickly implemented. The station coordinated with Lao Bao commune to bring rice to supply to the people in a timely manner" - Senior Lieutenant Colonel Ho Le Luan said.

Amidst the roads submerged in water, small boats still carry rice, water and necessities to each residential area. Simple gifts given at the right time not only help people alleviate immediate difficulties, but also are sharing and encouragement for Lao Bao people to be steadfast in overcoming difficult moments in floods.

On the morning of September 14, philanthropists continued to send bread to people in flooded areas. At noon on the same day, units and agencies stationed in Lao Bao commune will also prepare additional meals to support people.

According to the People's Committee of Lao Bao commune, as of 8:00 PM on September 13, 9/12 villages were flooded, including Trieu Phuoc, Tan Phuoc, Vinh Dong, Tan Thanh, Tan Long, Lang Vay, Tan Kim, Trieu Long and Trieu Thanh. The locality has relocated 441 households with 1,606 people; of which 426 households with 1,549 people were flooded.
