Meal of gratitude to express gratitude to female war invalids rank 1/4 in Khanh Hoa
Khanh Hoa - Meal of Gratitude is one of the activities to show gratitude on the occasion of the 79th Anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, implemented by the Fatherland Front Committee of Tay Nha Trang Ward.
On the evening of July 27, the Fatherland Front Committee (MTTQ) of Tay Nha Trang ward coordinated with the Ward Trade Union to organize the program "Meaningful Meal" at the family of wounded soldier grade 1/4 Tran Thi Nhan (born 1952, residing in residential group 10-11 Vinh Hoi, Tay Nha Trang ward).
Ms. Tran Thi Nhan's small house is filled with laughter. The meal prepared by Trade Union and Women's Union officials is not only a family meal but also a thank you to the female soldier who dedicated her youth to the Fatherland.
In 1970, when she just turned 18, Ms. Nhan put aside her dream of becoming a teacher to enlist in the Information Corps.
In her memory, it was the time when her homeland was submerged in bombs and bullets, a generation of young people ready to "put their pens on the battlefield" with the desire to unify the country.
In November 1971, she and her unit marched into the Quang Tri battlefield, performing the task of ensuring communication.
In January 1972, while on duty, she was hit by an enemy bomb. The explosion left her missing one arm and her whole body seriously injured.
After being transferred to the rear and then to the North for treatment for many years, doctors made efforts to save the remaining arm for the young female information soldier.
The end of the war was also the moment when a wartime love had a beautiful ending. The soldier who secretly loved her on the Quang Tri battlefield returned to his hometown to propose, the two became husband and wife after the country was unified.
Recalling the past, Ms. Nhan always said that she was lucky to be alive to return. Because on the day of departure, she and her comrades determined that only when the country was peaceful would there be a day to return to their homeland.
During the meaningful meal, the woman over 70 years old always smiled brightly. War stories mixed with warm laughter.
She repeatedly recalled the verses in the poem "Poem about Happiness" by poet Bui Minh Quoc: "What is happiness, how many times have we been confused/ Asking each other for a long time but still not finding out/ Until the day we take a step away/ The front line calls us two to be present".
According to Ms. Tran Thi Hong Van - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tay Nha Trang ward, the "Meaningful Meal" program is implemented to show gratitude to policy families, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and people with meritorious services to the revolution on the occasion of the 79th Anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026).
Not only preparing warm meals, union members and association members also clean up houses together, visit and encourage policy families, creating a close space for the young generation to listen to historical stories from war witnesses themselves.
And to date, socio-political organizations and 47 residential area Fatherland Front Committees have deployed, ensuring that each selected address has a specific task, a practical result and deeply expresses the feelings and responsibilities of the Fatherland Front system towards people with meritorious services and policy families.
