Workers hope to connect and change careers when losing their jobs

On November 3, the Labor Federation (LDF) of Quang Tri province said that the unit had just organized the program "Listening to union members, workers speak", with the participation of union members and workers of grassroots trade unions in non-governmental projects in the province.

Close-to-people recommendations of workers

At the program, union members and workers of NPA/RENEW, MAG and Vietnam Peace Tree projects raised many recommendations directly related to jobs, income and rights when performing tasks.

Notably, representatives of the NPA/RENEW Project said that the bomb and mine clearance program is about to end, and 262 workers are expected to lose their jobs. Among them, 248 people will retire from December 15, 2026 and 14 people from January 31, 2027.

Faced with this reality, workers request functional agencies to specifically guide the procedures for closing social insurance books, conditions for enjoying unemployment benefits, one-time social insurance, pension and maternity benefits.

At the same time, it is proposed that the Department of Home Affairs and the Trade Union organization support skills training, career change, and connect businesses to recruit to find new jobs soon.

Workers in the bomb and mine disposal profession also want to clarify the conditions for early retirement for heavy, hazardous, and dangerous work.

Representatives of the MAG Project raised many issues related to occupational accidents. Among them, there are cases where treatment costs and insurance allowances last for more than a year before being paid.

The employee requested clarification of the responsibility for paying full salary during the treatment period, especially when the insurance payment is lower than the salary received according to regulations.

In addition, union members requested to clarify the irrationalities in the salary scale and table, the handling of discipline and the role of the Trade Union representative when investigating labor accidents.

Answering policies, protecting workers' rights

Before the recommendations, representatives of the Provincial Social Insurance, the Department of Home Affairs and the Provincial Labor Federation directly exchanged and guided regulations related to insurance, labor relations and the responsibilities of employers.

Regarding the workplace accident at the MAG Project, the Provincial Labor Federation affirmed that the grassroots-level investigation team must have representatives of the grassroots Trade Union Executive Committee according to regulations. Arranging participants who are not in the right Trade Union representative status is inappropriate.

The Trade Union organization has the right to request employers to remedy, and at the same time supervise the settlement of regimes, compensation and allowances for victims of accidents.

Regarding salary scales and tables, the Provincial Labor Federation said that the Trade Union has the right to refuse to sign confirmation if it detects unreasonable content, and at the same time propose dialogue and negotiation to protect the rights of union members.

Regarding the proposal to support union members in difficult circumstances, the Provincial Labor Federation informed that it has established a Trade Union Social Fund, supported the construction of new "Trade Union Shelter" houses with 50 million VND, repaired 25 million VND and visited difficult cases according to regulations.

Regarding expanding support for unemployed workers, the Provincial Labor Federation will continue to research and support connections with businesses so that workers can find new jobs.

Mr. Nguyen Tai Minh - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial Labor Federation said that through the program, the Trade Union organization continues to grasp difficulties from the grassroots level, strengthen dialogue with relevant units, aiming to resolve petitions and protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers.
