Equipping students with legal knowledge before starting work
The Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center coordinates with universities to organize a propaganda and legal counseling program for final year students, helping them master legal knowledge before participating in the labor market.
More knowledge after being consulted
For nearly 1 month, thousands of final year students in Ho Chi Minh City have been consulted on labor law, social insurance, how to write job applications and handle real dispute situations.
Ho Truc Ngoc - a final year student majoring in Logistics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport - said that after listening to the instructions, she understood the hidden needs of employers and knew what she needed to do to meet those expectations. In particular, she clearly understood that the interview was not a one-way asking - giving or testing, but a bilateral relationship, an equal dialogue and a two-way choice between businesses and employees.
When I understand the nature of this back-and-forth impact, I am given the right direction to prepare my application and participate in the interview with a more confident attitude" - Ngoc said.
And Phuong Kim Hoang Vuong, who is also a final year student majoring in Logistics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, said that through the consultation, she has learned more about the types of labor contracts, time, probationary salary, working hours, workplaces... specified in the contract.
Now I understand that when signing a labor contract, don't just ask how much salary, but ask yourself who to sign a labor contract with, what type of contract to sign, with which company, who is the representative. I also distinguish between fixed-term labor contracts (maximum 36 months) and businesses that are only allowed to sign fixed-term labor contracts up to 2 times in a row, then if employees continue to work, businesses must switch to signing fixed-term labor contracts and the notice notice period for each type of labor contract" - Vuong shared.
Helping students confidently enter the labor market
Lawyer Nguyen Phan Bao Khuyen - Deputy Head of the Organization - Administration Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center, who directly participates in consulting for students - shared that many students initially only care about how to write good resumes, how to answer interviews, or how much the salary is. But after practical situations were discussed, they began to ask more deeply such as who they signed the labor contract with, whether the job and workplace were in accordance with the agreement, how their rights were protected and what to do when problems arose...
The biggest joy of the counselor is that when the lesson ends, students' questions are different from when they started. Even more joyful is that they have proactively "ordered backwards" the contents they want to be equipped with, such as how to adapt during the probation period, understand the expectations of superiors, receive feedback, communicate and behave at work. That is a very valuable shift, from knowing the law to knowing how to apply the law, from wanting to find a job to proactively preparing to become a knowledgeable, skilled and brave worker" - Ms. Khuyen said.
Mr. Phung Thai Quang - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center - said that one of the tasks of the trade union organization is to protect workers from an early age, from afar, through participating in contributing, building laws and equipping workers with legal knowledge. With counseling and legal propaganda for students, we hope that when you enter the labor market, in addition to knowledge and professional skills, you will also have more legal knowledge to properly implement laws, agreements in labor contracts and know how to protect yourself to prevent arising in the working process.
When each employee knows the law and implements it well, labor relations will be stable and harmonious, disputes will be minimized, and businesses will develop sustainably. In the coming time, the Trade Union organization, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center will continue to replicate this model to help a large number of students confidently enter the labor market" - Mr. Quang emphasized.
