Caring for workers in Dong Thap is increasingly practical and effective
Dong Thap - The work of caring for union members, workers, and laborers in the province is increasingly going into depth, practicality, and efficiency.
In the afternoon of April 29, a delegation of Party and State leaders led by Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President - came to Dong Thap to visit and give gifts to policy families, poor households and workers in difficult circumstances... on the occasion of April 30th, Southern Liberation Day, National Reunification Day and International Labor Day (May 1).
At the working session with the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien - Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee said that in the past time, Dong Thap has made many efforts in implementing social security policies. Especially the work of caring for union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers in the area is increasingly practical and effective.
Currently, the whole province has 203, 215 union members out of a total of 214,551 workers, civil servants, and laborers. Trade union levels have focused strongly on grassroots levels, promptly grasping and supporting workers facing difficulties.
In just the first 4 months of 2026, the province has organized visits and supported 56,653 turns of union members and workers in difficult circumstances, who suffered from work accidents and occupational diseases, with a total budget of more than 20.3 billion VND. At the same time, 216 union members were supported with unsecured loans with a total amount of nearly 4.9 billion VND, contributing to improving livelihoods and stabilizing income.
Housing care continues to be concerned with supporting the construction of 2 "Trade Union Homes", helping workers settle down and feel secure at work. In addition, care activities for holidays and Tet are organized practically, creating widespread spread.
During the 2026 Lunar New Year, trade union levels in the province have cared for more than 350,000 turns of union members and workers with a total budget of over 91.3 billion VND. Prominent is the series of programs "Tet Sum vay - Spring of Gratitude to the Party" in industrial parks, combined with the awarding of 2,000 gifts worth 1.3 billion VND.
In addition, the programs "Border Spring - Loving Tet", "Border Spring warms people's hearts" were also effectively implemented, awarding 564 gifts and supporting the construction of 5 "Trade Union Homes", with a total value of nearly 600 million VND.
According to the Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, care activities not only provide immediate support but also help workers stabilize their lives, feel secure at work, and stick with businesses, thereby contributing to improving labor productivity.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien said that in 2025, the multidimensional poverty rate of the province decreased to 0.70%, and near-poor households to 1.40%. This result is the result of many synchronous policies, including contributions from caring for and supporting union members and workers - the force directly participating in production, creating material wealth for society.
In the coming time, Dong Thap will continue to promote activities to care for union members and workers in a practical and effective direction, contributing to ensuring social security and promoting sustainable socio-economic development" - Mr. Thien emphasized further.
