Trade unions bring a full Tet to workers
The program "Tet Sum Vay - Trade Union Tet Market" implemented by Lao Cai Provincial Trade Union has helped workers in mountainous areas reduce their worries about Tet. Tet gifts, bus tickets and essential goods at preferential prices help them celebrate a warm Tet, even though they are far from home.
No more struggling to worry about Tet
In a rental room of more than 10 square meters near Dong Pho Moi Industrial Park (Lao Cai), Ms. Giang Thi Hong (31 years old, H'Mong ethnic group, garment worker) confided: "Tet is very important for our compatriots, but a few years ago, I was very worried because I had little money and the road back to my hometown was far away. This year, with the attention of the union, I feel less relief" - Ms. Hong shared.
That chi in the highlands of Bac Ha. 6 years ago, she went to the city to work as a worker with the hope of having a stable income to raise young children and help her elderly parents. With a salary of more than 7 million VND per month, we have to cover rent, living expenses, and return to our hometowns, so every time Tet comes, worries pilap up.
" among us in the mountains, bus tickets, Tet gifts for parents, brothers... are not simple. There were years when I planned to stay and not return because I was afraid it would cost me, said Ms. Hong.
This year, in addition to the Tet gift, the union also introduced her to buy essential goods at preferential prices at the Trade Union Tet Market.
Rice, cooking oil, and candy are all cheaper than in the market. These necessities help my family not struggle to prepare for Tet" - she said, her eyes lit up with joy.
At Au Lau Industrial Park, Mr. Lo Van Thang (27 years old, Thai ethnic group, wood processing worker) said that this was the first year he participated in the program "Tet Sum Vay".
"I have been away from home for several years, every Tet holiday I plan to return to my hometown. This year, with the support of gifts and bus tickets from the union, I feel much more secure" - Mr. Thang shared.
Mr. Thang's family lives in Mu Cang Chai, where most people depend on rice fields. Workers' income helps him have a more stable life, but it is very difficult to make room for it.
"We Thai people really value Tet. Having gifts to bring home to my parents, I feel more fulfilling my duty" - Mr. Thang said.
Focus on taking care of Tet for workers far from home
Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Dinh Thi Hong Lan - Deputy Head of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Lao Cai province - said: After implementing the two-level local government model and merging the province, the Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Lao Cai province was assigned to directly manage 91 grassroots trade unions with 14,560 workers, including 14,028 union members.
In just over 6 months of implementing the new model, the Trade Union Board has guided 6 grassroots trade unions to sign collective labor agreements with many provisions beneficial to employees such as raising the allowance for shift meals from 25,000 to 30,000 VND; supporting 500,000 VND/month for couples working together at enterprises; supporting gasoline, 13th month salary, and diligence bonus. Along with that, the work of developing union members continues to be promoted with 1,800 new union members, establishing 4 grassroots unions in enterprises, contributing to expanding the union organization in industrial parks.
According to Ms. Lan, in the coming time, the immediate focus is to take care of the Lunar New Year 2026 for union members and workers; review difficult cases and children of union members with serious illnesses to promptly visit and encourage them. At the same time, continue to promote the development of union members, establish a union organization in enterprises, ensure salary and bonus regimes so that employees can feel secure in sticking with and returning to work after Tet.
During the Lunar New Year, care activities focus on workers in difficult circumstances, workers far from home, ethnic minority workers, workers who have accidents or have reduced working hours. In addition to Tet gifts, many units also organize vehicles to take workers home, support the purchase of goods at preferential prices, and create a space for meetings right at the workplace. For ethnic minority workers, Tet is associated with cultural identity and family. Therefore, the trade union tries to make everyone have the conditions to celebrate a warm Tet" - Deputy Head of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Lao Cai province shared.
