Lao Cai Trade Union supports livelihoods for people

Not only stopping at visiting and giving gifts, many "Skilled Mass Mobilization" models implemented by Lao Cai Trade Union also support livelihoods, create jobs, help people and workers in difficult circumstances gradually escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Union gives "fishing rod"

On the afternoon of early January 2026, the Lao Cai Ward Trade Union working group visited the family of Ms. Doan Thi Loan, a poor household in Coc Lay Residential Group. The meeting opened up a direction for practical livelihood support, demonstrating the role of the Trade Union in the movement "Skilled Mass Mobilization" and sustainable poverty reduction.

Ms. Loan's family is in particularly difficult circumstances. Her husband died early, she raised two young children alone, had no stable job, and her income was mainly from seasonal labor, an average of only about 2 million VND/month. The family's largest asset is the allocated forest land area, but it has been left vacant for many years due to lack of capital and plant varieties.

After directly surveying the situation and listening to the family's thoughts and wishes, Lao Cai Ward Labor Union agreed to build a "Skilled Mass Mobilization" model to support Ms. Loan's livelihood by giving her about 5,000 seedlings of fat trees. This is identified as a long-term solution, helping her family gradually plant forests, creating a stable source of income in the future.

According to Mr. Dang Nguyen Hoan - Chairman of Lao Cai Ward Trade Union, supporting seedlings not only has immediate significance but also demonstrates the responsibility of the Trade Union organization in accompanying people to overcome difficulties.

"We hope that each support model will help people have sustainable livelihoods, thereby escaping poverty and stabilizing their lives" - Mr. Hoan emphasized.

Receiving the support, Ms. Doan Thi Loan emotionally said that this is a great source of encouragement for her family to have more faith and determination to rise up.

"With a "fishing rod", my family will try to take good care of and plant forests to gradually overcome difficulties and rise up in life" - Ms. Loan expressed.

The movement spread throughout the highlands

In recent times, trade unions of communes and wards have proactively coordinated with authorities and socio-political organizations to support union members, workers and households in difficult circumstances with specific methods, suitable to the conditions of each locality.

In mountainous communes such as Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Bat Xat, Muong Khuong, many livelihood support models have been implemented such as: Supporting forestry seedlings, livestock seedlings; helping capital turnover; supporting housing at the Trade Union Shelter; introducing jobs for disadvantaged workers. Instead of short-term support, trade unions at all levels have shifted to "fishing rod" support, helping people have conditions to work, produce, and generate their own income.

The common point in these models is to take people as the center, starting from the actual needs of each household. Before supporting, union officials go directly to the grassroots to survey and grasp the situation, thereby choosing the most suitable form of support, avoiding spreading and forms.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem - President of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation - shared that the emulation movement "Skilled Mass Mobilization" has been concretized by practical work, associated with the task of caring for the lives of union members, workers and people. Effective models not only help people escape poverty but also contribute to strengthening people's trust in the Trade Union organization.

In the coming time, trade unions at all levels in the province will continue to review and select households in difficult circumstances but with the will to rise up to build appropriate livelihood support models; at the same time, monitor and guide throughout the implementation process, contributing to the effective implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the locality.

From specific, silent but responsible actions, the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" movement of Lao Cai Trade Union is gradually spreading, becoming a solid support for the poor and disadvantaged to rise up and stabilize their lives.
