General Secretary, President requests FIFA to support Vietnam in hosting some tournaments

On the afternoon of August 26, in Hanoi, General Secretary and President To Lam received FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is in Hanoi to attend the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final between Vietnam and Thailand.

At the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino's visit to Vietnam; highly appreciated FIFA's operating role in the development of world football, as well as the practical companionship and support that FIFA has given to Vietnamese football over the years.

General Secretary and President shared that football is a sport that is especially loved by the majority of Vietnamese people, has a strong spreading power and plays an important role in connecting, inspiring, and tightening the spirit of community solidarity.

General Secretary and President To Lam said Vietnam's orientation in prioritizing investment in completing school football infrastructure, ensuring schools have stadiums that meet standards to serve students' physical training.

In addition, Vietnam will focus on building youth football talent training centers, while planning and developing a large-scale, modern stadium system that meets international standards.

The General Secretary and President requested FIFA to pay attention to and create conditions to support Vietnam in researching and hosting a number of tournaments under the FIFA system, initially prioritizing tournaments suitable to the facilities and organizational capacity of Vietnam; and at the same time aiming for larger-scale tournaments when the system of facilities and infrastructure serving football in Vietnam is completed; continue to support Vietnam in training coaches, referees and improving professional capacity, football management capacity, developing women's football; school football, amateur football to professional football and national teams.

Expressing his pleasure to return to Vietnam, FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared that he was extremely impressed with the love of football and the positive sportsmanship of the Vietnamese people; assessing Vietnam as one of the countries with great football development potential in the region.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino affirmed that he is always ready to accompany, share experiences, and provide maximum support in terms of infrastructure, technical expertise as well as training for community football and youth football development; support improving management quality as well as completing infrastructure in the coming time.
