Prime Minister suggests Singpapore cooperate in developing nuclear power

On December 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spoke by phone with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss bilateral relations.

Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure at having an interview with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong right after the meeting within the framework of the G20 Summit (November 2025); highly appreciated the regular contact and phone calls of the two Prime Ministers to promptly consult and coordinate to effectively respond to challenges, take advantage of opportunities to maintain development momentum, and at the same time make practical contributions to ASEAN solidarity.

The two sides were pleased with the positive developments in the Vietnam - Singapore relationship since upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, agreed to resolutely and effectively implement the Action Program for the 2025-2030 period; study and establish new cooperation mechanisms, including the Strategic Dialogue mechanism between the two ruling parties.

The Prime Ministers of the two countries also agreed to continue to prioritize upgrading the Vietnam - Singapore (VSIP) industrial park network to a greener, smarter, more inclusive and comprehensive second generation; strive to soon reach the VSIP 30 mark before 2030 and replicate this successful model to other countries in the region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the two countries for actively conducting a survey of wind power export projects from Vietnam to Singapore; proposed cooperation in developing small modules of nuclear power; soon have specific cooperation projects in the field of carbon credits, ensuring food security.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also hopes that Singapore will participate in Vietnam's Financial Centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, continue to help Vietnam develop high-quality human resources, making the Vietnam - Singapore relationship a typical model of solidarity, cooperation and dialogue in the region.

Agreeing with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized that in the context of the complex regional situation, Singapore hopes to work with Vietnam to substantially implement the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, becoming a "lighthouse" in ASEAN for mutual win-win and mutual benefit cooperation.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two Prime Ministers expressed deep concern about the recent tense developments between Cambodia and Thailand; hoped that the two sides would restrain themselves, not use force, conduct dialogue, and resolve them by peaceful means; agreed to closely coordinate with other ASEAN countries to strengthen solidarity, maintain ASEAN's central role, promote ASEAN mechanisms to promote dialogue, and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to coordination and efficiency when Vietnam is the host of APEC and Singapore is the ASEAN Chair in 2027.
