Vietnam - Laos determined to further deepen the content of "strategic engagement

On April 9, in Vientiane Capital, immediately after the solemn official welcoming ceremony, Politburo Member, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu held talks with Politburo Member, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee Vilay Lakhamphong.

At the talks, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu affirmed the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to always attach importance and top priority to consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic linkage between Vietnam and Laos. At the same time, he emphasized that this is a priceless asset of the two nations, an objective law, a great source of strength ensuring the sustainable development of each country, and an important factor contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.

The Standing Committee of the Secretariat of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party warmly welcomed and highly appreciated comrade Tran Cam Tu's choice of Laos as the first country to visit in the position of Standing Committee of the Secretariat of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the context that the two countries have just successfully organized Party Congresses in each country, held National Assembly elections, consolidated leadership positions and Laos is preparing to welcome the traditional Tet. This is a vivid proof of special and rare solidarity and the visit will be an important driving force, contributing to tightening relations between the two countries.

The two sides emphasized the effective implementation of high-level agreements, bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and at the same time agreed on a number of important measures to promote Party cooperation, continue to implement cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties, strengthen strategic information exchange, strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at the high level; promote cooperation between departments, ministries, branches, and localities; improve the quality of coordination in theoretical research, practical summaries, and training and fostering cadres. The two sides also agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation, strengthen coordination in preventing transnational crime, including drug crime and high-tech crime.

The two sides especially emphasized the requirement to further deepen the "strategic linkage" content in Vietnam-Laos relations, ensuring closer, more effective and substantive cohesion in all areas of cooperation, in accordance with the development requirements of each country in the new period.

In which, it is necessary to focus on improving the efficiency of economic, trade, and investment cooperation; promote infrastructure and transport connectivity; strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and training, especially training strategic cadres, science and technology, culture, and tourism; and closely coordinate in regional and international issues of common concern.

On this occasion, the two sides agreed to coordinate in preparing well for important commemorative activities in 2027, including the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (1962 - 2027) and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos (1977 - 2027).
