The oldest town in Vietnam has only 3 wards left after the merger

According to the source of labor, recently, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province has reported No. 49/BC-UBND to the Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs, summarizing the results of the voters who represent the household representative on the project of arranging administrative units (DVHC) of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh provinces and the Project on DVHC in Phu Tho province in 2025.

With the project to reorganize commune-level administrative units, the results of the consultation of the people who are voters representing households in 205 communes, wards and towns in Phu Tho province: The total number of voters representing households is 415,812 people.

Of which, the number of voters representing households who received opinions was 409,800 people (reaching a rate of 98.55%), the number of voters who approved was 405,756 people (reaching a rate of 97.58%), the number of voters who disagreed was 4,004 people (reaching a rate of 0.96%).

With Phu Tho town - the oldest town in Vietnam with nearly 122 years old (by May 5, 2025, it will be 122 years old), before the arrangement and merger, this town had 9 communes and wards: Phong Chau ward, Hung Vuong ward, Au Co ward, Thanh Vinh ward, Phu Ho commune, Ha Thach commune, Ha Loc commune, Van Lung commune, Thanh Minh commune.

According to the results of the voter consultation on merging Phong Chau ward, Phu Ho commune, Ha Thach commune to establish Phong Chau ward, 7,993 out of a total of 8,217 voters of the 3 communes and wards mentioned above took opinions (reaching a rate of 97.27%), of which 7,941 voters agreed (reaching a rate of 96.64%).

With the merger of Hung Vuong ward, Van Lung commune, Ha Loc commune to establish Phu Tho ward, 7,284 out of the total 7,439 voters of the 3 communes and wards mentioned above asked for opinions (reaching a rate of 97.92%), of which 7,222 voters agreed (reaching a rate of 97.08%).

Regarding the merger of Au Co, Thanh Vinh ward, Thanh Minh commune to establish Au Co ward, 4,847 out of a total of 4,912 voters of the 3 communes and wards mentioned above asked for opinions (reaching a rate of 98.68%), of which 4,838 voters agreed (reaching a rate of 98.49%).

Thus, this ancient town located on the left bank of the Red River will have 3 commune-level administrative units: Phong Chau Ward, Phu Tho Ward and Au Co Ward. The total natural area of the three communes is 64.6 km2.

Of which, Phong Chau ward has a natural area of 29.617 km2, a population of 32,519 people; Phu Tho ward has a natural area of 23.070 km2, a population of 27,957 people; Au Co ward has a natural area of 12.517 km2, a population of 18,951 people.
