Quang Ninh - On April 14, the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee held the 68th conference to give opinions on the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units.

Continuing to closely follow the orientation at the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, the Steering Committee at the Quang Ninh provincial level continues to perfect the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units under the province.

According to the proposed plan of the Central Government, the whole province will arrange 171 commune-level administrative units into 51 units.

Of which, 145 commune-level administrative units were merged into 48 units, reducing 97 units (reaching 66.9%); arranging 26 units into 3 special zones. After the arrangement, there will be 27 wards, 21 communes and 3 special zones.

In case the competent authority approves Quang Ninh to have 2 special zones, the whole province will arrange 171 commune-level administrative units into 54 units, including: 30 wards, 22 communes and 2 special zones.

Discussing at the conference, delegates all highly agreed with the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units; at the same time, discussed the names of units, administrative boundaries between units and the contents to be implemented in the coming time.

Concluding the conference, Mr. Vu Dai Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee - suggested that based on the plan that had been given by the Provincial Party Committee, the Party Executive Committees of localities continue to discuss and agree on the plan to name commune-level administrative units after the merger. On that basis, it will be implemented to collect public opinions.

The Provincial Party Secretary also noted that in the process of researching and agreeing on the plan to name new commune-level administrative units, localities can consider and choose to name district-level administrative units to name commune-level administrative units in the central area. At the same time, priority is given to preserving names and place names with historical traditions; famous places with tourism and cultural brands or taking the names of one of the communes and wards before the merger to name new commune-level administrative units. Based on the opinions of localities, the Provincial Steering Committee will synthesize and complete the plan to report to the Central Government.
