Long An proactively early, from afar, the plan to reorganize the commune level

On March 27, Long An Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Quyet chaired the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the arrangement and reorganization of district and commune-level administrative units and the development of a model of organizing local government at 2 levels in the province.

Attending were Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut, members of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and leaders of 15 districts, towns and cities.

At the conference, representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Organizing Committee reported to the Provincial Steering Committee and the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on the proposed plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units.

The total number of commune-level administrative units in Long An province is currently 186 (160 communes, 11 wards, 15 towns). Through the review, no commune-level administrative units have met the new criteria. Therefore, Long An province will rearrange commune-level administrative units based on 6 criteria (including: Natural area; population size; history, tradition, culture; geoeconomics; geopolitics; national defense, security) according to the orientation of the Government Party Committee and the actual situation of the province.

At the conference, delegates contributed opinions and discussed important issues in the process of reorganizing administrative units, including: Determining boundaries between new units, selecting administrative centers, naming commune and ward-level administrative units after the reorganization and especially organizing the collection of voters' opinions to ensure the promotion of democratic rights and creating a solid basis for related decisions.

Speaking at the conference, Long An Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Quyet welcomed and highly appreciated the preparation of the Provincial Party Committee's Organizing Committee, the Department of Home Affairs and localities in developing a plan to reorganize and reorganize commune-level administrative units. "We must have a proactive spirit, arrange early and remotely, and implement in accordance with the direction of the Central Government," Mr. Quyet emphasized.

This is only the first step of the preparation and reorganization of the commune -level administrative unit, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee proposed the assistant team to fully absorb the discussions, review and research carefully the issues that are still inappropriate, will organize the voters' opinions in accordance with the process, thereby creating consensus, high consistency, ensuring the best of the people's rights to serve the people close to the people.
