Proposing the US to promote cooperation with Vietnam in technology transfer
On January 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper to bid farewell on the occasion of the end of his term.
At the meeting, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Ambassador Marc Knapper on his successful term in Vietnam with many outstanding achievements; acknowledged the Ambassador's positive contributions in promoting the effective and sustainable development of Vietnam - US relations in depth.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the close coordination between Ambassador Knapper and the US Embassy in contributing to major milestones of bilateral relations in the past 4 years, especially the upgrading of relations to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, creating a solid foundation to bring the bilateral relationship to a new stage of development.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's steadfast implementation of its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification; while maintaining the "four no's" defense policy.
Vietnam attaches importance to its relationship with the US, and wishes to continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world. In the coming time, the two countries need to continue to promote delegation exchanges at all levels, thereby strengthening political trust and creating momentum to strengthen bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that economic and trade cooperation is an important pillar of Vietnam - US relations; highly appreciated the role of Ambassador Knapper in opening the market for goods of both sides, promoting US businesses to increase investment and expand operations in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister suggested that the US promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of technology transfer and digital transformation; soon recognize Vietnam's market economy regulations and remove Vietnam from the list of countries limiting high-tech exports (D1, D3).
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the two sides will soon complete negotiations on a counter- trade agreement that is fair and balanced, creating a stable foundation for the business environment, bringing practical benefits to the business communities of the two countries.
The Prime Minister assessed that cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war is of special significance and importance, helping to build trust, promote reconciliation and enhance mutual understanding; acknowledged the persistent efforts of Ambassador Knapper and suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen cooperation in this field.
For his part, US Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed his pleasure at seeing the two countries develop their relations more and more substantially and comprehensively in all fields; continue to be a model in international relations; and thank Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his support for the development of bilateral relations.
The Ambassador shared the assessments and proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; agreed that the two sides need to continue to expand cooperation in key areas such as politics - diplomacy, security - defense, trade - investment, energy, humanitarianism and overcoming the consequences of war, science - technology, training high-quality human resources, etc.
The Ambassador expressed his confidence that the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continuously grow; affirmed that in any position, he will continue to be a friend of Vietnam and contribute to the bilateral relationship.
