Da Nang Trade Union admits more than 50,000 new members

More than 45,000 union members have actually increased Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh, President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation, said that the work of establishing grassroots unions and developing new union members is one of the outstanding activities of the organization in the past year.

Specifically, the City Labor Federation has focused on implementing many positive solutions, urging and coordinating with trade unions at all levels to establish 112 new grassroots trade unions. Thereby, newly admitting 50,017 union members (including data for the first 6 months of the year of the Quang Nam Labor Federation and Da Nang City before changes in administrative boundaries).

In 2025, the number of union members in Da Nang will decrease to 4,511 people. However, the actual increase in union members reached 45,506 people, exceeding 102.2% of the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

Previously, according to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW, the Labor Federations of the old Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City carried out procedures to dissolve 1,800 grassroots trade unions at administrative agencies and public service units receiving 100% of their salaries from the state budget, leading to the dismissal of 82,000 people from participating in trade unions.

During the year, the Da Nang Trade Union also completed documents and procedures for personnel improvement and arranged more than 1,700 grassroots trade unions.

In addition, 10 training courses were organized for key forces among workers and laborers in Da Nang city. Training courses on trade union work, labor relations, law, finance, and congress organization have also been implemented for trade union officials at all levels.

Research on new methods and solutions

According to Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh, the establishment of grassroots trade unions and the development of new union members will continue to be one of the three key tasks of the Da Nang Trade Union in 2026.

In 2026, the Da Nang City Labor Federation strives to develop at least 40,000 union members. However, this task raises many issues that need to be reflected in depth to find more effective solutions.

According to statistics, Da Nang city currently has 23,252 agencies, units, enterprises, business households, establishments... paying social insurance, with a total of 479,572 cadres, civil servants, and workers. Of which, the state administrative block and public service units have 1,752 units with 78,760 cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers.

The city currently has 5,331 enterprises and 542 branches and representative offices newly registered and put into operation.

The number of enterprises without trade unions (from 10 employees or more) in Da Nang city is 2,333 enterprises with 61,267 employees. Of which, 25 units have been mobilized by the Trade Union many times but have not agreed to establish a trade union organization.

The number of informal workers in the city is currently 312,912. Every year, the General Confederation assigns Da Nang a target of developing at least 40,000 union members.

"These are numbers that force us to study new, more effective and appropriate methods and solutions in the current situation, to meet the requirements of the Trade Union organization in the new period.

In particular, each union cadre and union organization, especially the commune-ward union, needs to pay special attention, review the area, assign specific tasks, have a close coordination mechanism, take advantage of the leadership and direction of the Party Committee... to achieve this goal," Ms. Linh emphasized.
