The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union
The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union will meet from October 10 to 13, 2003, at the Vietnam - Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, Hanoi. 900 outstanding delegates, representing more than 4.2 million union members attended the Congress.
The Congress was honored to welcome Comrade Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former advisors to the Central Executive Committee of the Party, leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, Vietnam Fatherland Front and other organizations, along with 31 delegations of international trade unions and trade unions of other countries, representatives of diplomatic delegations, international and non-governmental organizations with relations with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to attend. The General Secretary gave his speech directing the Congress and presented the General Congress of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam: "Workers and trade unions of Vietnam unite, workers are creative, and take the lead in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country".
The action slogan of the Trade Union organization in the new period is: Building a strong working class and trade union organization, caring for and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of employees, contributing to strengthening national solidarity, successfully implementing the cause of employees and trade unions in the country.
The Congress set out the general goals and directions of the Trade Union organization for the 2003 - 2008 term:
Building a strong working class, worthy of being the core force, taking the lead in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country and the role of revolutionary leadership in the new period; consolidating and extensively developing the great national unity bloc in the Vietnam Fatherland Front, on the basis of a strong alliance of the working class with the farmer class and intellectuals; organizing patriotic emulation movements that are vibrant, widespread, practical and effective among workers; participating in managing, caring for and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers; promoting the development of union members and trade union organizations in economic sectors; improving the capacity and qualifications of trade union cadres; innovating the content and methods of activities, building strong trade union organizations; participating in building a clean and strong Party, strongly participating in the Party; strengthening the national cooperative, strengthening the development of the Vietnam - Vietnam's economy and firmly contributing to the development of the national cooperative organization.
The main tasks of the Trade Union for the 2003 - 2008 term are:
- Propaganda and education, contributing to building a strong working class, worthy of being the leading force in the cause of industrial relations, the country's founding and the role of revolutionary leadership in the new era. Actively participate in Party building and State building.
- Proactively participate in developing, organizing the implementation and effectively inspecting and supervising the implementation of laws, policies and regimes directly related to employees and democratic regulations at the grassroots level; promote the work of caring for the lives, performing well the function of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of employees.
- Extensively organize patriotic emulation movements, focusing on the movement of good and creative labor among employees, contributing to the successful completion of the country's socio-economic goals.
- Develop union members and build a strong union organization; innovate the content and operation methods of union organizations to suit each type of grassroots, each union level; improve the capacity and qualifications of union cadres.
- Expanding the foreign affairs activities of the Vietnam Trade Union.
The 9th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is the Congress of "Solidarity, intelligence, democracy, innovation", demonstrating the great will and aspirations of the working class, of the staff and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organization to enter the new century and the new millennium.
The Congress elected the Executive Committee of 150 members. The 9th Executive Committee elected 19 members of the Presidium, including: Comrade Cu Thi Hau, Dang Ngoc Tung, Do Duc Ngo, Nguyen Dinh Thang, Dang Ngoc Chien, Nguyen Hoa Binh, Nguyen Van Dung, Vu Khang, Nguyen Viet Vuong, Hoang Van Yen, Hoang Ngoc Thanh, Le Van Trinh, Do Dang Hieu, Nguyen Xuan Hong, Nguyen Huy Can, Nguyen Thi Kim Hai, Nguyen The Phuc, Phan Viet Thong and Phan Thi Thu Van. Comrade Cu Thi Hau, member of the Party Central Committee, was re-elected as President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Comrade Dang Ngoc Tung - Permanent Vice Chairman; Comrades Dang Ngoc Chien, Do Duc Ngo, Nguyen Dinh Thang, Nguyen Hoa Binh were elected Vice Chairmen.
The Executive Committee elected the Inspection Committee of the General Confederation of Labor, consisting of 11 comrades, comrade Vu Khang, and members of the Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Labor, to be elected as Chairman of the Inspection Committee.
