Vietnam - Laos: A "unique" relationship in international relations

Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of his State visit to Vietnam.

On the afternoon of January 26, at the National Assembly House, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with General Secretary, President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of his state visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man warmly welcomed General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (NDCM), Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and the high-level delegation of the Lao Party and State to pay a state visit to Vietnam.

The National Assembly Chairwoman emphasized that the State visit of Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith is of utmost importance, taking place in the context of the XIV Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CSVN) and the XII Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party just being successfully organized, marking important turning points in the development process of each country.

The National Assembly Chairwoman affirmed that the success of the Congresses of each country is a vivid proof of the correct leadership of the two Parties; thereby creating a solid political foundation for the two countries to continue to strengthen comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, a "one-of-a-kind" relationship in international relations.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, on behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Vietnam, congratulated Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith on continuing to be trusted by the Party and State of Laos to be elected as General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

The National Assembly Chairwoman expressed her pleasure at the outstanding progress in economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, an important pillar of the great friendship and special solidarity between the two countries; in which bilateral trade turnover in 2025 reached nearly 3 billion USD, an increase of about 32.7% compared to 2024.

Về hợp tác giữa hai cơ quan lập pháp, Chủ tịch Quốc hội đề nghị hai cơ quan lập pháp tiếp tục tăng cường phối hợp chặt chẽ tại các diễn đàn nghị viện khu vực và quốc tế. Quốc hội Việt Nam sẽ tiếp tục tăng cường trao đổi đoàn cấp cao, chia sẻ kinh nghiệm lập pháp, giám sát, hợp tác; phối hợp chặt chẽ để tháo gỡ khó khăn, mở rộng các lĩnh vực hợp tác mới như kinh tế số, chuyển đổi năng lượng xanh, kết nối hạ tầng, giáo dục - đào tạo, phù hợp với định hướng sau Đại hội XII của Đảng NDCM Lào và Đại hội XIV của Đảng CSVN.
