Electronic screens improve urban traffic management efficiency
After more than a week of Hanoi City Police putting into operation 36 electronic LED screens connected to the Traffic Control Center, the system has initially been effective, becoming a visual traffic information channel for people.
According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper in recent days, on many roads in Hanoi, LED screens continuously update traffic information in real time. In addition to information about congestion, accidents or incidents on the route, the system also suggests alternative directions of movement.
Early in the morning of July 24, some areas in Hanoi had heavy rain, the risk of flooding and congestion was very high. On Pham Hung street (section near the Pham Hung - Thang Long Avenue intersection) at about 7 am, the LED screen displayed warnings that Khuat Duy Tien, Tran Duy Hung, Thang Long Avenue routes were all clear. Looking at this information, many people felt more secure.
I find this system very useful. For example, if Khuat Duy Tien street is congested, I can turn left to Tran Duy Hung and go into Nguyen Chanh street to move to Nguyen Trai, or follow the instructions on the LED board. I really hope that in the upcoming rainy and storm season, this system will accurately update flooding points so that people can proactively avoid" - Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh (Thuong Tin commune, Hanoi) shared.
Also having a similar assessment, Mr. Le Anh Minh - a technology taxi driver said that this model needs to be replicated to many other routes, especially routes that often experience congestion and flooding.
According to the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of Hanoi City Police, all information displayed on the LED screen system is transmitted directly from the Traffic Control Center. Here, traffic police officers and soldiers monitor traffic developments in real time through a system of nearly 5,000 AI cameras, analyze data, assess the situation and promptly send warnings, traffic diversion information or route guidance to each screen on the roads.
It can be simply understood that the LED screen is the place to display information, and the content is updated by officials on duty at the Center. Currently, we have put AI Assistants into use. Officials only need to ask questions, AI will exploit data from the AI camera system and quickly return aggregated information about traffic conditions, flooding... Thereby supporting statistics, forecasting, and advising on traffic management plans before updating to the LED screen" - Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Minh - Deputy Head of the Traffic Command and Traffic Light Control Team (Hanoi Traffic Police Department) - said.
In addition, LED boards use a color code system to reflect traffic conditions in real time. In which, blue shows a clear road, yellow signals high traffic volume, and red warns of congestion. Thanks to that, people can just observe the displayed color to quickly grasp traffic conditions and proactively adjust routes, avoiding congestion points.
According to Mr. Duong Duc Manh - Head of Product Department, TFS Technology and Solution Investment Joint Stock Company - the technical unit deploying the LED board system - said: The information displayed on the screen is designed according to the criteria of being short, concise, and clear, ensuring that vehicle operators can easily observe and grasp the content. To improve information transmission efficiency, we will continue to receive people's opinions and can adjust the display font size to suit each installation location.
In addition to providing information in real time, during off-peak hours, the system also switches to displaying propaganda content about traffic law compliance, contributing to raising traffic participants' awareness.
Information from the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, currently 36 LED screens are being installed on ring roads, gateways, and radial axes with high vehicle density, such as Thang Long Avenue, Nguyen Huu Tho - Nghiem Xuan Yem Street, Pham Hung, Nga Tu So, Tran Khat Chan, Vo Chi Cong - Nguyen Hoang Ton, Van Khe - Phuc La...
Positive signals after the initial operation period show that bringing traffic data from the Control Center to traffic participants in real time is a suitable direction.
The operation of 36 LED traffic information and warning screens is very important in realizing the policy of promoting digital transformation, applying science and technology to ensuring security and order.
We recommend that people regularly monitor the information displayed on the electronic board system, comply with the orders of the traffic police force, the traffic light system and legal regulations when participating in traffic" - Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long - Deputy Head of Hanoi Traffic Police Department - shared.
