Lao Cai - The Provincial Police Women's Union has awarded 70 million VND to support the family of a female officer whose child has a serious illness and needs a liver transplant.

On September 27, information from the Women's Union of Lao Cai Provincial Police, the unit just handed over 70 million VND to support the family of Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Hao, officer of Detention Center No. 1, Lao Cai Provincial Police.

Ms. Hao's daughter is NAT (born in 2018), suffering from congenital gallbladder atrophy since birth. When she was only 2 months old, she had Kasai surgery. Since then, she has regularly had re-examination and treatment at the National Children's Hospital (Hanoi).

According to the Lao Cai Provincial Police Women's Union, the cost of re-examination and medication for the child is about 12 million VND per month. After many years of treatment, the condition did not improve, causing the child's liver to become fibrotic, progressing to end-stage cirrhosis.

According to the doctor's prognosis, NAT may have to undergo liver transplant surgery in the near future, with the expected liver source from her own mother, Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Hao.

The cost of the liver transplant is estimated from 800 million VND to 1.2 billion VND, not including the costs in the treatment and post-operative care process. The large cost is currently a pressure for the family.

Meanwhile, the income of Ms. Hao and her husband is mainly enough to cover essential living expenses. The family also has to take care of their indigenous mother and two young children.

Faced with this particularly difficult situation, on September 9, the Provincial Police Women's Union received a report from the Women's Union of Detention Center No. 1 about the case of Ms. Hao's family.

The Provincial Police Women's Union then mobilized officials and women's union members in departments, divisions, and units to join hands to support. From contributions, the unit awarded 70 million VND and some gifts to Ms. Hao's family.

At the support handover ceremony, representatives of the Provincial Police Women's Union encouraged the family to continue to be steadfast in the process of caring for and treating baby NAT; and at the same time wished that the support would contribute to reducing immediate difficulties and adding motivation for the family to continue the treatment journey for the baby.

Visiting and supporting activities also show the spirit of mutual affection and sharing of officials and women's union members of the Provincial Police towards comrades in difficult circumstances.
