Vietnam General Confederation of Labor receives delegation of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of Cyprus

On the afternoon of December 19, in Hanoi, Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) - had a meeting with the working delegation of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of cyberspace led by Mr. Michalis Papanikolaou, General Secretary of the International Wood and Construction Trade Union (UITBB), General Secretary of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of cyberspace PEO.

At the meeting, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan respectfully thanked the Interest of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of Singapore in the activities of the Vietnam Construction Trade Union in particular as well as the activities of the Vietnam Trade Union in general. The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor believes that in the coming time, the traditional friendship between the two countries, the friendship and cooperation between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Greek General Confederation of Labor (PEO) will be increasingly strengthened through cooperation in international forums as well as through delegation exchanges.

Sincerely thanking and expressing appreciation for the reception of the Vietnam Trade Union, Mr. Michalis Papanikolaou shared some information about the activities of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of cyberspace in recent times.

With nearly 90 years of operation, the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of Cyprus currently has 7 industry unions and operates in many different fields. In recent years, the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts in Europe have caused prices to increase rapidly, affecting the lives of Cyprian workers, some of whom have become poor and have a lower standard of living.

In that context, the Trade Union of Construction, Wood and Mining of the Republic of cybers has made many efforts to fight to protect the rights of workers and achieved some results in salary increases and signing new labor agreements that are beneficial to workers.

Through researching a number of enterprises and grassroots trade unions in Vietnam, Mr. Michalis Papanikolaou acknowledged and highly appreciated the Vietnamese Government's interest in trade union activities, the close relationship between workers and grassroots trade unions. The representative of the Construction, Wood and Mineral Trade Union of the Republic of cypress hopes to have the opportunity to refer to the experiences and successes of the Vietnam Construction Trade Union in particular and the Vietnam Trade Union in general in workers' and trade union activities, especially in the context of Vietnam developing a multi-faceted economy.

Also at the meeting, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of cyberspace in protecting the rights of workers in the context of many economic and political fluctuations in Europe.

Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan also shared some information about the Vietnam Trade Union. With 95 years of establishment and growth, the Vietnam Trade Union currently has a structure of 4 levels with about 11.8 million union members. In July 2024, the Vietnam Trade Union celebrated its 95th anniversary.

With persistent efforts and active implementation, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has achieved many results in performing the task of representing, caring for, and protecting union members and workers, such as: Improving the quality of participation in developing policies and laws related to workers and trade union activities; effectively performing the role of a member of the National Wage Council, successfully negotiating the increase in regional minimum wages in the past 5 years with an increase of 23% and continuing to increase by 6% from July 1, 2024; Focus on dialogue, collective bargaining, increase the quantity...

In particular, the Vietnam Trade Union is focusing on implementing projects and action programs to implement the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, term 2023-2028, focusing on 3 breakthroughs.

In the coming time, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan proposed that the Construction, Wood and Mining Trade Union of the Republic of cybers continue to pay attention to and create conditions to promote bilateral relations between the two industry unions through delegation exchanges and research on specific and effective cooperation activities in the coming time, while supporting the Vietnam General Trade Union in general and the Vietnam Construction Trade Union in particular at international forums.
