Vietnam Trade Union attends Chemical Industry Conference in India
The Conference of the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Trade Union Network; BASF Trade Union Network in the Asia-Pacific region has just taken place in India.
The delegation of the Vietnam Trade Union was led by Mr. Nguyen Huy Thong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Trade Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Chemical Industry Trade Union - attended.

The conference was organized by the Industrial and Manufacturing Trade Union (IndustriALL) in Mumba, India with the participation of many Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and host India.
In her welcoming speech, Ms. Christine Oliver - Assistant Secretary General of IndustriALL - highlighted the challenges that global manufacturing industries in general and the chemical industry in particular are facing. Notably, the number of workers in the chemical industry has decreased significantly, with the example of BASF Company - the world's largest German chemical manufacturing consortium with more than 50,000 workers in the prosperous period but now with only about 30,000 workers.
At the conference, countries shared experiences in organizing trade union activities in the chemical industry. Including ways to attract and retain workers; ensure hygiene and labor safety in an industry with many potential risks; timely support policies for workers in distress during production...
After 2 working days, the conference achieved many positive results. Mr. Tom Grinter - Director of Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, IndustriALL - thanked the delegates for enthusiastically exchanging information and hoped that the sharing at the conference would be realized in the action plans of the Trade Unions of the countries.
