Da Nang Labor Union improves the lives of female workers

The Da Nang Labor Union has implemented many models of caring for workers' lives, especially female workers, such as "Cabin - storage of milk" and increasing shift meals, supporting workers to stabilize their lives.

Practical care for female workers

Amid the sound of machines running smoothly in the workshop, Ms. Tran Thi Lan, a worker at Panko Tam Thang One Member Co., Ltd. (a Korean FDI garment company with more than 5,000 workers in Tam Thang Industrial Park, Quang Phu Ward, Da Nang) has repeatedly endured a feeling of milk throbbing while working overtime.

"There are times when I get exhausted, but if I leave my position, I am afraid it will affect the chain," Ms. Lan said.

When the "Cabin squeezing - storing milk" model was jointly implemented by the union in 2019, Ms. Lan seemed to be relieved of her burden. The cabin is about 20m2 wide, with enough breast pumps, refrigerators, sterilizers... to help her take a break in the middle of the hour to express and store milk safely.

"Now I am both healthy and continue to raise my children with breast milk. I am truly grateful to the union for thinking about the very daily needs of women working, said Ms. Lan.

From an initial bright spot, this model has gradually been replicated in many other enterprises in Tam Thang Industrial Park, becoming a practical support for working mothers.

At Matrix Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park), the story of caring for workers begins with... shift meals. When the Trade Union launched the program "Nutritious shift meals - Healthy workers", the grassroots Trade Union organization stood up to negotiate with the enterprise.

As a result, the main meal was increased from VND 15,000 to VND 20,000/person, and a snack was arranged for pregnant workers.

Female worker Nguyen Thi Anh Thu shared: "Increasing 5,000 VND sounds not big, but for the team workers, a quality meal helps us reduce fatigue and illness. I thank the union for speaking instead of the workers voices.

Expecting a stable working environment

Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh - Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation emphasized that caring for female workers is not only material support but also a spiritual sharing; every meal, gift or visit has great meaning when workers' lives are under pressure.

"The common point is that women all want to have sustainable jobs, stable income and social security policies close to reality. Workers expect the 14th Party Congress to focus more on creating quality jobs, developing social housing, trade union institutions, kindergartens - schools near industrial parks, so that workers can "set up before they can work" - Ms. Anh said.

Ms. Huynh Thi Du - Head of Human Resources Department, Vice President of the Trade Union of Panko Tam Thang Company, is one of 60 outstanding individuals in the "Good at public work - Good at housework" movement honored by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2025, saying: "My company currently has more than 4,000 female workers, they all hope to have more nurseries, policies to support workers in child care and especially have stable jobs and enough income to live so that women do not have to choose between keeping a job and taking care of their children".
