Prime Minister Le Minh Hung: Economic cooperation is a bright spot in Vietnam - Malaysia relations

On the afternoon of August 6, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received Malaysian Ambassador Tan Yang Thai to say goodbye at the end of his term of office.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung congratulated and highly appreciated the Ambassador for excellently fulfilling his responsibility in Vietnam over the past 3 years, making important contributions to the comprehensive and synchronous implementation of cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially the two countries' upgrade of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024 during the official visit to Malaysia by General Secretary To Lam.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two countries. Economic cooperation is a bright spot in the relationship between the two countries; Malaysia is currently Vietnam's 3rd largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 10th largest investor among 154 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed that the two sides further open markets for each other's goods, especially agricultural and aquatic products, food industry, electronic components, building materials... to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD in a more balanced direction; proposed that Malaysia invest in developing the Halal industry in Vietnam such as building capacity, establishing a common Halal certification standard set; mutual recognition between the National Halal certification center; proposed that the two sides closely cooperate to promote the 3-party project between Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore on offshore cross-border wind power transmission.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highly appreciated the role of the Ambassador in connecting information to strengthen cooperation between the two countries at regional and international forums; suggested that the two countries should continue to support each other in multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, United Nations, APEC, WTO...; requested the Ambassador, in his new position in the coming time, to continue to pay attention to promoting the development of relations between the two countries, promoting the early adoption of the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to serve as a basis for continuing to effectively and substantively implement bilateral relations.

Ambassador Tan Yang Thai thanked Prime Minister Le Minh Hung for taking the time to receive him; affirmed that Malaysia always values and wishes to promote the relationship between the two countries to develop more strongly, especially in areas where the two countries have potential and strengths such as oil and gas, agriculture, education and training, digital transformation, digital security, science and technology... The Ambassador expressed his belief that the two countries will make an important contribution to promoting ASEAN solidarity and development; resolving disputes by peaceful means and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

On this occasion, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed his sincere thanks to the leaders of the Party, State, Government and relevant ministries and sectors of Vietnam for their concern and support in helping the Ambassador successfully complete his term of office in Vietnam; affirmed that he will continue to make every effort to nurture the cooperative relationship between the two countries, contributing to promoting the Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to become increasingly strong and substantive.
