Teacher salary increase from July 1, 2026

From July 1, 2026, Decree 161/2026/ND-CP stipulating the new basic salary level of 2,530,000 VND/month officially takes effect.

Thus, based on the current salary coefficient of primary school teachers and the new base salary level, the salary scale of primary school teachers from July 1, 2026 will be calculated according to the base salary of 2,530,000 VND/month.

Teacher salary is calculated according to the formula:

Teacher salary = 2,530,000 VND × Current salary coefficient

With the new base salary, teachers' salaries from July 1st will be about 5.31-17.15 million VND/month. The old level is currently 4.91-15.86 million VND/month.

Primary, secondary and high school teachers of grade I will receive the highest salary from July 1st.

In which, people with a salary coefficient of 6.78 receive a salary of 17.15 million VND/month.

Grade III kindergarten teachers are the group with the lowest salary, ranging from 5.31-12.37 million VND/month (depending on rank).

Teachers should note that the above salary is a salary based on the base salary. In addition to salary, teachers also enjoy a number of allowances including seniority allowance for teachers; professional preferential allowances for teachers directly teaching at all levels of education, subjects, teaching subjects and by region of work...

Decree 182/2026 issued by the Government stipulates that professional preferential allowances for some groups of teachers are increased from 35% to 45%, from 50% to 60% or from 70% to 80%.

Specifically, teachers teaching at preschool and primary education institutions are entitled to a 45% preferential allowance.

Teachers teaching at preschool education institutions, primary schools located in communes in region I, region II of ethnic minority and mountainous areas; island communes, islands, and border communes are entitled to a 60% allowance level.

Teachers and administrators of educational institutions working at sports gifted schools, art gifted schools and semi-boarding ethnic minority schools also enjoy a 60% allowance.

For teachers and administrators of educational institutions working at ethnic minority boarding schools, boarding schools, specialized high schools, university preparatory schools, Friendship School 80, Friendship School T78, Viet Bac Highlands High School, schools and classes for people with disabilities and some other specialized educational institutions, the preferential allowance level according to the profession is 80%.

In addition, Decree 182/2026/ND-CP supplements the allowance level of 80% for teachers teaching at preschool, general education, vocational secondary schools and specialized schools located in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions according to the Government's regulations.
