Hanoi builds more bus stations and parking lots to reduce traffic congestion
Hanoi will invest in 3 bus stations and 13 parking lots in the 2026-2035 period, combining public capital, PPP and socialization to reduce traffic congestion.
In order to solve traffic congestion, Hanoi City is promoting the mobilization of many resources to invest in bus stations and parking lots, prioritizing attracting private capital, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and socialization.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, in the period 2026-2030, Hanoi City plans to invest in building 1 bus station and 4 centralized parking lots with public investment capital. At the same time, calling for investment in building 6 more parking lots with non-budget capital or in the form of public-private partnerships.
In the period 2031-2035, the city will continue to invest in building 2 more bus stations with public investment capital, and at the same time call for investment in 3 parking lots in the form of socialization or PPP.
For bus stations located in the Ring Road 3 area, the Department of Construction will coordinate with relevant units to implement conversion and relocation when new bus stations are put into operation and according to the direction of competent authorities.
Over the past time, the Department of Construction has advised the Hanoi People's Committee to implement a parking lot - garage project combined with green trees, flower gardens and complete technical infrastructure and architectural landscape on the land strip between Ring Road 1 and La Thanh road (Hoang Cau - Lang Ha section).
In addition, the Department also directed the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee to implement an underground parking project at Duong Thanh - Phung Hung flower garden (Bat Dan flower garden).
According to the plan, Hanoi City will develop interchange parking points (Park and Ride) to meet the need for connection between personal vehicles and public transport when deploying low-emission zones. The parking management system will also be integrated on a smart transportation platform to organize flexible parking, limit impacts on traffic and improve infrastructure exploitation efficiency.
Previously, functional agencies surveyed 11 locations planned to arrange transit parking lots connecting public transport in the Ring Road 1 area and traffic hubs such as Nguyen Khoai, Tran Khat Chan, Xa Dan, De La Thanh, Cau Giay, Buoi, Lac Long Quan, Au Co, Nghi Tam, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai and Tran Khanh Du.
In addition, Long Bien, Yen Phu, Cau Giay bus transfer points and some existing parking lots of Hanoi Parking Point Exploitation Company were also included in the survey area. Out of a total of 11 locations, 5 locations are existing parking lots and 6 locations are proposed to be developed into transit parking lots connecting public transport.
