Online temporary residence registration, receive results in just a few days
Hanoi - People can easily and conveniently register for temporary residence on the Ministry of Public Security's Public Service Portal or the VNeID application.
At the beginning of July 2026, Mr. N.H (28 years old, from Nghe An) moved to rent a room in Tu Liem ward (Hanoi) to live and work.
After signing the rental contract, he was requested by the landlord to register for temporary residence through the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security.
Logging in with an electronic identification account, Mr. H successively filled in the information according to the system's instructions.
The dossier to be uploaded includes a declaration of change of residence information and a house rental contract. After completing the steps, Mr. H paid a fee of 7,000 VND and chose to receive the results online.
The process is quite simple, just prepare all the documents and follow the instructions on the system. After a few days, I re-entered the Public Service Portal and saw the notification that the application had been processed. Checking on VNeID, the temporary residence address has also been updated. I don't have to go back and forth many times as before, so I save a lot of time," Mr. H shared.

Meanwhile, for those who are not familiar with operating in the digital environment, the grassroots police force still directly supports to facilitate registration.
At the beginning of July, Ms. Le Thi Thuy (character name has been changed) came to the residence registration point of Tu Liem Ward Police (alley 25 Nguyen Co Thach street) to register for temporary residence.
At first, I was quite confused because I didn't often use online services. However, the police officer gave very specific instructions, so it only took a few minutes to complete the procedures," Ms. Thuy said.

Recorded at the residence registration point of Tu Liem Ward Police, the area supporting people is arranged with detailed instructions on the online temporary residence registration process.
Here, officials directly answer questions and support cases that are not proficient in operating the system.

In addition to direct guidance, temporary residence registration steps are also posted by functional agencies on cyberspace, helping people easily look up and proactively implement them.
Promoting online administrative procedure resolution not only facilitates people but also contributes to reducing travel time and limiting overload at dossier receiving points.
In addition to the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security, people can also register for temporary residence on the VNeID application with the following steps:
- Step 1: Open the VNeID application on your phone and log in to the corresponding account. Next, users select the Administrative Procedures - Temporary Residence Registration section.
- Step 2: The system requires security verification using PIN code, Face ID or Touch ID depending on the device.
- Step 3: Select the subject to perform. If registering for yourself, select "Youself"; if registering for others (such as relatives, students, tenants), then select "Declaring for others".
- Step 4: Select temporary residence. Users can "Create a new household" (i.e. register a separate temporary household at the new place of residence) or "Register into an existing household" (in case of living with another person).
- Step 5: Enter complete address information and relationship with the household head (if any). There are two forms to request confirmation of household head's consent: via VNeID (requiring household head to have level 2 VNeID) or declaration CT01.
- Step 6: Check and confirm the profile. Users can upload a rental contract or legal residence documents if requested.
- Step 7: Pay fees. Payment can be made online by bank card, domestic account or scanning QR code.
- Step 8: Send the application and track the results. After successful sending, users can track the processing progress right in the application. Registration results are returned in the form of electronic notifications or online residence confirmation.
