993 inner-city streets in Hanoi prepare to install AI cameras

According to voters of Delegation No. 4 (Hai Ba Trung, Vinh Tuy, Bach Mai), currently, the city and departments and branches have many solutions to ensure synchronization and solve traffic problems, such as installing cameras, AI cameras to monitor, detect and handle traffic violations, adjust and install traffic sign systems...

Voters proposed that the City People's Committee continue to direct the review of surveys and adjust traffic light signals according to traffic flow and time of people participating in traffic. Currently, in some points, there are still inadequacies such as: The waiting time for lights is too long, although the traffic flow is not large, not during peak hours, some intersections, green lights and red lights should be surveyed and updated to install additional traffic light signals, draw lines, and install signs allowing right turns to reduce traffic load and avoid congestion.

Answering voters' petitions, the Hanoi People's Committee said that the City Police are currently implementing 2 Camera Projects in the city.

The first is the Project to Upgrade the Command Information Center and expand the camera surveillance system, traffic command and control to serve security and order, and handle administrative violations for the Traffic Police Department of the City Police according to Decision No. 165/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.

The project deploys the installation of 2,460 cameras (1,107 cameras for handling violations, 960 cameras for measuring traffic flow, 112 OD cameras, 251 PTZ cameras, 30 speed monitoring cameras), 13 AI servers, 100 AI cabinets for controlling traffic lights, information security equipment, 36 electronic screen panels.

Along with that, upgrading and supplementing the software system, applications, smart solutions (software for handling violations, warning, traffic information guidance; AI analysis software to automatically control traffic light cabinets in real time and network security monitoring system, VMS... ) at 238 traffic junctions and 38 locations in the city to serve the work of monitoring, detecting and handling traffic violations, supporting traffic management, contributing to improving the efficiency of ensuring traffic order and safety.

The project was started and implemented from April 2026, expected to be completed and put into operation in the third quarter of 2026.

The second is the AI surveillance camera system deployment project (expected to install 21,671 AI cameras, storage server systems, core network systems, software applications... ) to serve security and order assurance and support the resolution of 5 bottlenecks in the city.

On April 20, 2026, the Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee signed and issued Decision No. 2105/QD-UBND on issuing an Emergency Order to implement the AI surveillance camera system project to serve security and order assurance and support the resolution of 5 bottlenecks in the city.

Accordingly, the new investment project is 1,516 cameras, 269 AI cabinets controlling traffic lights; server system, upgrading and supplementing application software, smart solutions, VMS... and other related equipment materials.

New investment of 20,155 AI cameras on 993 main streets in the inner city area; 3,129 intersections of intersections, intersections, intersections... on inter-communal and inter-provincial routes without traffic lights, server system; upgrading and supplementing application software, smart solutions, VMS... and other related equipment.

Up to now, the City Police are coordinating with functional units to complete the dossier to implement the project, ensuring the set progress.

The implementation time (expected) is within 12 months, calculated from the time of issuing the emergency construction order on April 20, 2026.
