LD26235: Child has brain cancer, poor family exhausted from borrowing money for treatment
Two years of his child fighting brain cancer, that much time the family was poor and exhausted because of struggling with treatment costs.
Le Dinh Tuan Dung is the youngest child in a family of 3 children of Mr. Le Dinh Ninh (born in 1987) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh (born in 1992), residing in Thuy Loi 1 village, Thu Lam commune, Hanoi. Before the incident happened, Mr. Ninh and his wife worked in agriculture, taking advantage of doing extra freelance jobs to raise their children and take care of their elderly parents.
2 years ago, when Tuan Dung started to show symptoms of frequent vomiting and headache, the family only thought he was normally sick, so they took him to a district-level hospital for examination. However, the baby's condition became increasingly abnormal, his eyes began to stir, recognition ability decreased, limbs became soft, and consciousness gradually declined.
Worried about their child's symptoms, the family took the baby to Xanh Pon Hospital (Hanoi) for examination. Through MRI, doctors discovered a tumor in the brain and transferred the baby to the National Children's Hospital for emergency surgery. After surgery, the family received bad news when the tumor was identified as malignant. From then on, the boy's treatment journey began with successive surgeries, prolonged chemotherapy and radiation therapy sessions...
According to information provided by the family, Tuan Dung has undergone 3 tumor intervention surgeries. After treatment courses, the baby's health has been significantly affected. The baby often has nausea, poor appetite, difficulty absorbing food and can only eat a small amount. Not only that, the tumor has recurrence, causing the treatment regimen to be changed...
“My child is too young, every time I see him tired, nauseous, unable to eat, I feel very sorry for him. I just hope my child is a little healthier, can eat, sleep and no longer suffer pain. But my child's illness keeps going on, the tumor shows signs of enlarging, my husband and I are always worried,” Ms. Oanh shared.
Since her child got sick, Ms. Oanh had to quit everything to follow her child for treatment at the hospital. All family expenses and care for the remaining members fell on Mr. Ninh's shoulders. With an income of about 5 million VND per month, his family fell into misery because of worrying about money for his child's treatment...
Mr. and Mrs. Ninh still have two children, Le Dinh Tuan Anh (born in 2012) and Le Dinh Trieu (born in 2015). The children are still of school age and need to be cared for both materially and spiritually. Besides, the couple also has to pay attention to their elderly parents, who are old and suffer from many underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and reduced vision. Over the past two years, to have money to take Tuan Dung for treatment, the poor family has borrowed from relatives and acquaintances many times. Debts are piling up day by day, and now the family has fallen into poverty, while the treatment journey of the child has not stopped.

My husband and I have tried our best, all the money is for our child's treatment. We also have to borrow from many places, and now the debt has reached hundreds of millions of dong. I don't dare to think much about debt, I'm just afraid I don't have enough money for my child to continue treatment. As long as there is still an opportunity for my child, my husband and I still want to try," Ms. Oanh said choked up.
What worries Mr. Ninh's family the most at this time is that Tuan Dung's tumor shows signs of enlarging. The baby still needs to be closely monitored and continue treatment as directed by the doctor. However, behind each treatment course is the cost burden that Mr. Ninh and his wife almost have no strength to bear.
For the family, the biggest wish at this time is for their child to have more money so that baby Dung has the opportunity to continue treatment. But to continue that journey, they need more sharing from the community. Mr. Le Dinh Ninh's family really hopes to receive the care and help of philanthropists and readers near and far to have more funds for treatment for baby Le Dinh Tuan Dung.
