LD26241: Three young children with serious illness, young couple helplessly ask for help

Trần Hạnh (báo lao động) 24/10/2026 14:38 (GMT+7)

Nearly 14 years of marriage, having 3 children but all unfortunately suffering from illness, Ms. Huy and her husband gradually became exhausted because of managing the cost of treatment for their children.

In Xom Dinh village, Chi Tien commune, Phu Tho province, everyone knows the difficult circumstances of Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat (born in 1992) and Ms. Do Thi Huy (born in 1994). Married for nearly 14 years, having 3 children, but ironically all 3 children carry many diseases.

In 2013, Ms. Huy and her husband gave birth to their first child, baby Nguyen Tien Hoang. Tien Hoang was born prematurely, with intellectual delays, and could only walk at over 3 years old. Currently, Tien Hoang is 13 years old but still does not know how to speak, and his disability is determined to be severe.

In 2017, Ms. Huy gave birth to her second child, Nguyen Tien Quan. Unfortunately, Tien Quan suffered from congenital heart disease, often sick and ill. Ms. Huy and her husband borrowed money everywhere to have heart surgery for Quan, but he suffered brain sequelae. Similar to his older brother, Quan is now nearly 10 years old but still cannot function on his own. He was diagnosed with particularly severe disabilities.

In 2024, Ms. Huy and her husband missed the plan to have a third baby. They had hoped to have a healthy child. However, once again, luck still did not smile on the family. The youngest child Xuan Binh (born in 2024) suffers from complex congenital heart disease, neural tube defects, and severe mental retardation. Currently, he is 2 years old but still does not know how to walk or speak.

Because the three children are not able to serve basic needs such as eating or personal hygiene, Ms. Huy has to stay home to take care of the children. The main source of income for the family depends on Mr. Dat's meager construction salary. Income that was not enough to cover living expenses now has to bear the cost of medicine, treatment and rehabilitation for the three children, making the young couple helpless.

Looking at my child like that, I feel very sorry for him, the family wants to take him to physical therapy to improve his condition but does not have enough conditions.

The first child, my husband and I tried to let him go. The second child was only allowed to practice for a few sessions, then I learned online to practice for my child myself. Now the 3 children are both sick, my husband and I really can't manage. Difficulties in both money and time to take care of the 3 children" - Ms. Huy confided.

After many years of being busy taking care of her children, Ms. Huy's health gradually deteriorated and she often became ill. However, even when she was tired, she did not dare to rest, because the three children always needed someone to be by their side to take care of every meal and sleep.

In 2025, a tragedy struck Mr. Dat and Ms. Huy's family again when baby Tien Quan unfortunately had a traffic accident, brain hemorrhage. Although he has recovered after surgery, Tien Quan is still walking with difficulty, cannot hear and communicate.

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - specialist of the office of the People's Committee of Chi Tien commune (Phu Tho) - said that Mr. Dat and Ms. Huy's family live harmoniously and are loved and shared by neighbors.

People have also called for support, and local authorities have timely support policies. However, the family's circumstances are too difficult, and the current support is still not enough to cover expenses. Therefore, we hope that more philanthropists will join hands to help, to alleviate the family's difficulties" - Mr. Truong shared.

The pain of 3 sick children along with the burden of hospital fees and surgery gnawing at the small family every day. Mr. Dat and Ms. Huy's family are at the end of a dead end, in great need of the joint help of philanthropists and benefactors across the country to add strength and treatment costs for the children.
