Bridges and roads built with the support of the Golden Heart Fund of Labor have helped Can Tho people travel conveniently, opening up paths for economic development and spreading affection.

Connecting traffic, spreading love

Projects supported by the Golden Heart Labor Charity Fund are contributing to changing the face of the riverine countryside. Typically, the Kenh Xang - Nang Mau 2 road (Long Binh ward, Can Tho city), previously degraded, dusty in the dry season, muddy in the rainy season, causing difficulties for people to travel.

Understanding those hardships, the Golden Heart Charity Fund of Lao Dong Newspaper and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor mobilized and sponsored the construction of the road. Construction started in August 2023, the project was completed with a total cost of 4.8 billion VND, of which the fund sponsored 3.4 billion VND, and the local budget counterparted 1.4 billion VND. The road is more than 5.3km long, with a 2.5m wide concrete surface, helping hundreds of households travel and transport agricultural products more conveniently.

Directly witnessing the changes of his hometown after the Kenh Xang - Nang Mau 2 road was completed, Mr. Tran Vu Phong (Long Binh ward) excitedly said: "In the past, when it rained, the roads were muddy, transporting agricultural products was very difficult. With a new road, everyone was happy. Now traveling is convenient, transporting goods is easier, and life has also changed a lot.

Not only opening roads on rural roads, concrete bridges supported by the Golden Heart Labor Charity Fund also connect both banks of rivers and canals, creating favorable conditions for trade and children's journey to school.

In Phu Huu commune, the Y-shaped Duong Go canal bridge was inaugurated in October 2023, with a total cost of 2.1 billion VND, of which the Fund supported 1.5 billion VND. The bridge is 66m long, with a load capacity of 2.5 tons, contributing to changing the face of the countryside.

Canal A7 bridge connecting Thoi Hung and Dong Hiep communes was inaugurated in early 2023, with a total cost of more than 2.4 billion VND, of which the fund sponsored more than 1.7 billion VND. After many years of use, the bridge helps thousands of households travel and transport agricultural products safely and conveniently, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.

In Truong Long commune, the three bridges Dia Muong, Ba Bich and Ngon Tra Ech were completed in August 2022, with a total cost of 1.5 billion VND, of which the Fund sponsored more than 71%.

Joining forces to build prosperous rural areas

From local practice, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - Vice Chairman of Phu Huu Commune People's Committee (Can Tho City) said that the companionship and sponsorship of the Golden Heart Charity Fund is of great significance to the locality. The project has fundamentally solved the difficulties that have existed for many years in transportation, emergency care, and transportation of people's goods. In particular, this is also an important lever to help complete the rural transport infrastructure system of the commune and inter-hamlet axis, supporting the locality to complete transportation criteria to move towards building communes that meet new rural commune standards.

Agreeing to evaluate the effectiveness of the projects, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang - Chairman of Truong Long Commune People's Committee (Can Tho City) - said that the bridges have helped people and students travel more safely, and at the same time paved the way for agricultural products to get closer to the market. These projects have contributed to completing rural transport infrastructure, connecting inter-hamlets, inter-communes and creating motivation for local economic development.

From the city's perspective, Ms. Trieu Thi Ngoc Diem - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City - assessed that rural transport projects supported by the Golden Heart Charity Fund bring practical efficiency. With billions of VND in support resources in the past time, many bridges and roads have been built, contributing to removing infrastructure bottlenecks, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, transport goods, develop production and access education and health services.

According to Ms. Trieu Thi Ngoc Diem, the projects not only bring economic value but also show the spirit of sharing, contributing to improving the quality of life, promoting new rural construction and sustainable development in difficult areas.
