The Golden Heart Charity Fund, Lao Dong Newspaper donated 50 million VND to support Ms. Do Thi Hien, a female environmental worker who was paralyzed after a work accident.

Workplace accident causes female worker to lose 91% of health

In a small house at No. 8, alley 94, Thuong Tiet village, My Duc commune, Hanoi city, Ms. Do Thi Hien (56 years old), a sanitation worker of My Duc Branch - Hanoi Urban Environment Co., Ltd. (URENCO), lay motionless on her bed after a serious labor accident.

On November 30, 2025, while collecting garbage on the road in Thuong Tiet village, Ms. Hien unfortunately had an accident, falling and hitting her head on the road, leading to traumatic brain injury. The incident caused her to be completely paralyzed, 91% health declining, and completely losing her ability to work.

From a diligent woman in environmental sanitation work, Ms. Hien now has to depend entirely on her loved ones. Essential activities such as eating through a tube, personal hygiene all need family support.

The incident further complicated the family's situation when Ms. Hien's husband passed away in 2012 due to a traffic accident. Since then, she has been single-handedly raising her children to adulthood, saving every penny to manage her life. After many years of overcoming losses, when life gradually stabilized, an unexpected accident caused her to lose her ability to work, pushing the family into hardship.

Burden weighs on the shoulders of an 86-year-old mother

After the accident, Ms. Hien's income from work was gone, while the cost of medicine, diapers, milk and daily care continuously increased. Her youngest daughter had to quit her job to stay at home to take care of her mother.

According to the family, at least 15 million VND is needed each month to maintain minimal care and treatment for Ms. Hien. Meanwhile, the current support source is only about 7 million VND from two daughters who married far away, not enough to meet the needs.

The pain is compounded when Mrs. Nguyen Thi Chieu, 86 years old, Ms. Hien's biological mother, still has to take care of her daughter with her grandchildren. Mrs. Chieu is the wife of martyr Do Van Loi, who sacrificed in 1972 on the southern battlefield.

At an age that should be enjoying old age with her children and grandchildren, the mother with gray hair and weak health still has to witness her daughter lying bedridden and worried about the days ahead. When care needs to be prolonged, the family economy is increasingly exhausted, and every additional expense becomes a great pressure.

Immediately after Ms. Hien had an accident, Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Company paid all hospital fees and implemented the regimes according to regulations. After having the results of the assessment of 91% health decline, the company resolved the regimes for her.

The unit also implemented activities to support and pay insurance and mobilized officials and employees to donate to help the family with hundreds of millions of VND. However, long-term care and treatment costs are still a heavy burden for Ms. Hien's relatives.

A company representative shared that prolonged treatment costs create significant pressure, and at the same time wishes to continue to receive the attention and support of organizations and individuals so that Ms. Hien's family has more conditions to overcome difficulties.

On October 15th, the Golden Heart Charity Fund, Lao Dong Newspaper visited, encouraged and presented 50 million VND to support Ms. Do Thi Hien's family.

On behalf of the Fund, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha - Head of the Social Work Committee, Lao Dong Newspaper sent greetings and encouragement to Ms. Hien and her family to strive to overcome adversity and gradually stabilize their lives.

Receiving the support, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chieu emotionally thanked the Golden Heart Charity Fund, Lao Dong Newspaper, the Board of Directors and the collective of workers of Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company - My Duc Branch for their concern, visits, and sharing with the family in difficult times.

For Ms. Hien's family, the 50 million VND support not only contributes to covering care and treatment costs but is also a valuable source of spiritual encouragement. Timely sharing helps relatives have more strength to continue to accompany her in the still arduous journey.

Although they have received support from businesses and organizations, prolonged care costs and the need for regular monitoring of patients still put the family in many difficulties. Ms. Hien's family really needs the community's cooperation to maintain care and treatment, reducing the burden on her loved ones who are on duty day and night.

In adversity, compassionate hearts are a practical support, helping female workers' families to be more steadfast in overcoming difficulties.
