In a degraded earthen wall house in Dai Phac village, Xuan Ai commune, Lao Cai province, the life of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's family (born in 1984, Tay ethnicity) is facing many accumulated difficulties.

Ms. Huong is small in stature, weighing only about 36kg, and her health is very weak. She currently enjoys a subsidy for the biological child of a resistance war activist infected with chemical toxins.

Her husband, Mr. Hoang Dinh Trich (born in 1986), also has limited health, poor awareness, and no stable job.

Ms. Huong and her husband have two children. Hoang Manh Cuong (born in 2014) is severely disabled and has difficulty walking. His younger sister, Hoang Thuy Kieu, is currently in 3rd grade at Xuan Ai Primary and Secondary School.

With that situation, taking care of every meal, taking care of children and maintaining daily life has become a big burden for Ms. Huong and her husband.

The main source of livelihood for the whole family currently depends on Ms. Huong's monthly allowance of more than 1.6 million VND.

That meager amount of money could hardly fully meet the essential needs of the four people. Especially when the family has up to 3 people with weak health who need regular medicine.

Previously, Ms. Huong's father, Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, still used a portion of his allowance to buy food and help his grandchildren.

However, last year, Mr. Thu passed away. The originally fragile support is no longer there, making the life of Ms. Huong and her husband even more difficult.

Ms. Bui Hoa Hau - In charge of the field of People with Meritorious Services - Culture Department of Xuan Ai commune shared that the difficulties of Ms. Huong's family are not only about daily meals.

The residence of the 4 people is currently a seriously degraded wooden house, earthen walls, many damaged positions, dilapidated roofs, no longer ensuring safety.

Every time it rains and storms, worries are constantly present. The house is always at risk of collapsing while storm running at night cannot continue.

According to the leader of Xuan Ai commune, Ms. Huong's family is classified as a poor household, with particularly difficult circumstances. Local authorities have included the family in the area to be supported with housing construction with a level of 60 million VND.

However, to be able to build a new house, the family still has to have additional counterpart funds.

This is beyond the ability of Ms. Huong and her husband when both husband and wife do not have stable jobs and no savings.

Leaders of Xuan Ai commune expressed that to turn the dream of a solid roof into reality, Ms. Huong's family still needs the joint efforts of the community.

A sharing, a kind heart can contribute more money to build a house, helping the family reduce worries before each rainy and windy season.
