In the Huong So resettlement area, Huong An ward, Hue city, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung's family (59 years old) is experiencing days full of worry.

Mr. Dung suffers from heart disease, bilateral coronary stenosis and high blood pressure, and is being treated at the Cardiology Department, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Tam (25 years old) - Mr. Dung's granddaughter, he started to develop the disease in 2022. Initially, he often had difficulty breathing and was tired. Every time he had an attack, his body turned purple, and the family had to take him to the hospital for chemotherapy and ventilator support.

“When he has difficulty breathing, he turns purple and immediately has to go to the hospital. There was a time when he was hospitalized for a whole month, came home for about 10 days and then got tired and was hospitalized again. In recent years, he has been going to the hospital more than staying at home. Seeing him sick, the whole family feels very sorry but doesn't know what to do,” Ms. Tam choked up.

To have money to treat Mr. Dung, the poor family had to run around, borrowing everywhere. However, loans kept coming in succession, making the family increasingly exhausted.

The family has borrowed from many places to take care of him, borrowing too much, so now people are also reluctant to lend more because they know the family's situation is difficult and they have no ability to pay. They want to treat him, but now they really don't know where to find money," Ms. Tam shared.

In the family, Ms. Tam's mother, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, has to stay at home to take care of Mr. Dung, unable to work. Ms. Mai's husband - Mr. Truong Ngoc On works as a construction worker, is the main laborer. With Mr. On's income of about 6 million VND/month, the family is not enough to cover his life and treatment costs for Mr. Dung.

Ms. Tam's situation is not much better when she has a child with congenital heart disease, her husband works far away, so she has to stay home to take care of the child, without income. Ms. Tam returned to live with her maternal grandfather and biological parents, both taking care of the young child and helping the family take care of the grandfather.

I also have a child with congenital heart disease so I can't go to work. My grandfather is seriously ill, looking at him in pain makes me feel very sorry for him. Everyone in the family is in difficulty, each person has their own burden, so I don't know how to help him," Ms. Tam said tearfully.

What worries the family even more is that recently, the doctor announced that Mr. Dung's heart condition had worsened and needed early intervention. According to the family, he was prescribed bilateral coronary angioplasty, with an estimated cost of about 55 million VND. This amount of money has become too heavy a burden for the family after many years of borrowing.

4 years of illness associated with the hospital, his wife died 2 years ago, Mr. Dung is completely dependent on his children and grandchildren. Successive hospitalizations have made his health increasingly weak, and the family is exhausted due to treatment costs. At the age of 59, Mr. Dung only wants to return to his small house, to live with his children and grandchildren. For the family, the biggest wish at this time is to have another chance for him to receive timely treatment, instead of continuing to watch his loved ones in pain and helplessness...
