LD26230: Child has been seriously ill for nearly 18 years, mother sick still tries to take care of child

Quỳnh Chi (báo lao động) 04/10/2026 09:00 (GMT+7)

For nearly 18 years, Ms. Pham Thi My Nhung has almost put aside her private life to take care of her daughter who is seriously ill.

The family of Ms. Pham Thi My Nhung (44 years old) and Mr. Ho Van Tri (49 years old) residing in hamlet 1, team 12B, Hoa Chau ward, Hue City.

Ms. Nhung and her husband have 3 children: the eldest son is 24 years old and married; the second child is Ho Thi Cam Tu (20 years old) who has been seriously ill since she was 2 years old; the youngest child is 15 years old and is currently in 10th grade.

Ms. Nhung said that when Cam Tu was only 2 years old, realizing that her child had abnormal signs, the family took her to Hue Central Hospital for examination. After MRI scans and in-depth tests, the family was informed that she had weak limbs.

Ms. Nhung and her husband took their child to the rehabilitation hospital for treatment with the hope that their child's health could improve, but Tu's condition became more and more serious.

Later, the family was informed by doctors at Hue University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy that Tu had spinal cord inflammation and needed surgery. However, the treatment cost was too high compared to the family's ability.

Feeling sorry for my sick child, my husband and I only know how to try to save, how much we have to worry about our child, when we are short, we borrow money. Since my child was 2 years old, my family has taken my child to this hospital and that hospital. The doctor said surgery is necessary, but our family really has no ability to pay," Ms. Nhung said choked up.

Over time, Tu's body became weaker and weaker, his limbs contracted, and his muscles became stiff, making it impossible for him to move on his own. His spine was scoored, Tu had to lie in one place and completely depended on the caregiver.

Recently, Tu also had lymph nodes in the neck area. Every time the weather changes, his health becomes abnormal, sometimes he has to be taken to the hospital for oxygen support.

Ms. Nhung said that because Tu is a girl, her daily private care is almost only taken care of by her. Therefore, even though she is suffering from polyarthritis in her hands and feet, when her hands and feet hurt, holding her child also becomes difficult, but she still tries because she does not want her child to suffer more disadvantages.

Currently, Mr. Ho Van Tri is a hired worker, working day by day. In rainy and flood months, the family is even more difficult because the place of residence is a low-lying area, often flooded. Some time, money for medicine, diapers, milk and care expenses for Tu became a heavy burden.

The family's circumstances became even more difficult when on the paternal side, Tu's grandmother had a stroke and had to lie in one place; her grandfather was 87 years old. On the maternal side, Ms. Nhung's mother passed away, her father lived alone, so he could not provide much support.

My biggest wish now is for my child to have surgery and reduce pain. I just hope someone will love and help so that my child has a chance to be treated," Ms. Nhung shared.

Also according to Ms. Nhung, the rainy and flood season is also the time when the family has more worries. Hired work is already precarious and now even more difficult, while the expenses for living and taking care of Tu still cannot stop.

If you give me a wish, I just wish to get a good night's sleep without having to worry about tomorrow. Because for me, a new day starts again with food, clothing, money and medicine for my child...", Ms. Nhung said sobbing.

At the age of 20, Cam Tu is still lying there, depending on her mother's care. As for the 44-year-old mother, despite being sick and often exhausted, she still tries every day, because for her, as long as her child still needs her, she cannot stop.

Ms. Pham Thi My Nhung's family is currently in great difficulty, not having enough ability to cover the treatment and surgery costs for Cam Tu. The family really hopes to receive the joint efforts and sharing of philanthropists and readers near and far so that Tu has more opportunities to be treated for a serious illness, reduce pain and have a better life.
