Solemn memorial ceremony - super martyr at Le Thi Rieng Park

On the morning of June 14, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (GHPGVN) HCMC organized a memorial ceremony - a requiem for heroic martyrs and patriotic compatriots who sacrificed at Le Thi Rieng Park.

Attending the ceremony were Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc; Major General Tran Chi Tam - Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 7, Head of Steering Committee 515 Military Region; Senior Venerable Thich Thien Nhon - Deputy Dharma Master of the Patronage Council, Chairman of the Executive Council of VBS; Senior Venerable Thich Minh Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Patronage Council of VBS; Venerable Thich Le Trang - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Ritual Committee, Head of the Executive Committee of VBS HCMC...

The memorial service also had the participation of a large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhists. The ceremony took place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.

Venerable Thich Thanh Phong - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Standing Deputy Head of the Executive Board of GHPGVN HCMC - said that the memorial and requiem ceremony for heroic martyrs and patriotic compatriots is an activity of deep gratitude and repayment to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.

Today's peaceful life is exchanged for the blood and bones of many generations of fathers and brothers. Therefore, the memorial service not only expresses gratitude but also contributes to educating the young generation about patriotism, about the great sacrifices of heroic martyrs to protect the Fatherland.

The memorial ceremony is organized in the spirit of promoting the tradition of protecting the country and pacifying the people of Vietnamese Buddhism, towards the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026). According to the plan, on the afternoon of June 14, a memorial service for the spirits of martyrs and patriotic compatriots who have sacrificed will be held.

The memorial ceremony is held in the context that the Ho Chi Minh City Command is making efforts to deploy the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains at Do Thanh Cemetery (Chi Hoa - Saigon, now Le Thi Rieng Park, Hoa Hung ward).

The research group has summarized and compared many different sources of documents about the process of clearing Chi Hoa Cemetery as well as the results of previous searches. In addition, collected testimonies from witnesses, conducted field surveys and analyzed information sources related to the collection of martyrs' remains after the Mau Than war in the Saigon - Cho Lon area.

Research results show that there is a basis to determine that this area exists 3 mass grave ditches with a number of martyrs of about 900 people.
