Ho Chi Minh City plans to spend more than 179 billion VND to give gifts on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the city named after Uncle Ho

On June 19, at the 3rd session of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, term 2026 - 2031, it considered the submission of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on policies to support gift spending for people with meritorious services to the revolution, relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution, social protection beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households in the city, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh city officially honored to be named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026).

According to the draft, people with meritorious services to the revolution, children of martyrs, relatives of martyrs receiving monthly allowances and relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution receiving monthly death benefits will receive gifts in cash at a level of 500,000 VND/person.

A similar level of support is also applied to social protection beneficiaries who are receiving monthly allowances; people who receive social pension benefits; people who stop receiving the regime of working capacity loss and switch to receiving regular allowances; subjects who are cared for according to the special policies of Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong before; and subjects who are being nurtured at public and non-public social assistance facilities.

For poor and near-poor households according to the review results in 2025 approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the city plans to support 1 million VND/household.

The total cost of implementing the policy is expected to be more than 179 billion VND. In which, the group of people with meritorious services to the revolution, children of martyrs, relatives of martyrs and relatives of people with meritorious services receiving monthly allowances is about 98,161 people, with a cost of more than 49 billion VND.

The group of social protection beneficiaries is expected to include 227,142 people, with a budget of more than 113.5 billion VND.

About 16,448 poor and near-poor households will be supported with a total budget of more than 16.4 billion VND.

According to the principle of support, the gift policy is only implemented once. In case a person from many groups receives a support level of 500,000 VND/person, they will only receive one gift.

Beneficiaries must have management records in Ho Chi Minh City until the end of July 2, 2026. This regulation aims to ensure the rights of newly recognized or newly transferred cases from other localities.

For poor and near-poor households, the gift recipient is the representative of the household. If an individual is both a person with meritorious services or a social protection beneficiary, and is also a member of a poor or near-poor household, that individual will still receive a gift of 500,000 VND under a separate category, and the household will receive an additional support of 1 million VND/household.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that after the resolution is approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, wards, communes and special zones will deploy the appraisal, payment and finalization of funds according to regulations.

Ho Chi Minh City believes that the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh city officially honored to be named after President Ho Chi Minh is a special historical milestone, marking the half-century journey of building and developing a dynamic city, always pioneering innovation and joining the whole country to enter a new stage of development.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the implementation of policies to care for people with meritorious services, social protection beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households on this occasion not only shows gratitude for their contributions to the country and the city, but also contributes to realizing the goal of building a comprehensive social security system, ensuring that all people are cared for and supported.

At the same time, the policy also spreads the tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source", the spirit of mutual affection, contributing to consolidating the great national unity bloc and promoting the values of affection that are the typical beauty of Ho Chi Minh City.
