Soc Trang - The Provincial People's Council has just approved the policy of arranging administrative units at the provincial and commune levels.

On the morning of April 20, the People's Council of Soc Trang province held the 32nd Session (Special Session). At this session, delegates approved the proposal on the arrangement of provincial and commune-level administrative units.

Accordingly, Soc Trang province will merge with Hau Giang province and Can Tho city, named Can Tho city and the administrative center in the current Can Tho city.

After the merger, Can Tho city has an area of 6,360.83 km2 (reaching 424.05% of the standard), population of 4,061,292 people (reaching 406.12% of the standard). The city has 100 administrative units including 31 wards and 69 communes. Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Soc Trang province - requested the Provincial People's Committee to complete the dossier of the Project on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units according to the plan and time limit; ensure the general progress to submit the Project dossier to the Ministry of Home Affairs before May 1, 2025. At the meeting, delegates also voted to approve the Report on the draft Resolution on measures to ensure the implementation of democracy at the grassroots level in Soc Trang province.
