Reasons for choosing Phu Tho as the name of the new province after the merger

On April 21, the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee met and approved the Project to merge 3 provinces: Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh. Phu Tho province - a provincial-level administrative unit directly under the Central Government on the basis of merging the entire natural area, population and commune-level administrative unit system of Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh provinces into the administrative boundaries of Phu Tho province.

Previously, the document collecting voters' opinions on the project stated the basis and reasons for proposing the plan, choosing the name and administrative - political center of Phu Tho province after the arrangement.

Bases and reasons for proposing the plan, choosing the name of Phu Tho province: The choice of Phu Tho as the name of the new province and placing the political center in Viet Tri city (formerly) was built on the basis of science, practice and in accordance with the regional development orientation, ensuring the criteria of history, geography, politics, socio-economics and national defense and security.

Regarding geographical location - transportation, the project states: Phu Tho is located in the central location connecting three provinces (Phu Tho - Vinh Phuc - Hoa Binh), with synchronous transport infrastructure, conveniently linked with the capital and the Northwestern provinces, and is an important transit point between the mountainous and plain areas.

Regarding development capacity: Viet Tri is a type I urban area, formerly the center of Vinh Phu province. Phu Tho has a fast industrial development rate, and has been forming a large-scale system of industrial parks, urban areas, tourism and services, becoming one of the important growth poles of the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.

Regarding the system of social infrastructure institutions: Phu Tho has a system of health, education, sports, and cultural development, with the capacity to serve people in the whole region. Higher training institutions, specialized hospitals and sports-tourism centers contribute to creating a solid foundation for the comprehensive development of the new province.

On culture - history: Phu Tho is the homeland of the Vietnamese ethnic group, with cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO. This is an important factor in terms of spirit, identity and creating high consensus among the people.

Regarding national defense and security: Phu Tho is an important area, with troops stationed by Military Region 2 and many central agencies, playing a strategic role in ensuring national defense and security in the Northwest and the Capital region.

Regarding effective regional development management: The location of the provincial center in Phu Tho helps expand new development space, synchronously exploit regional infrastructure, reduce pressure on Hanoi, promote regional linkages, in line with the development orientation of the Capital Region Planning and Resolution 11-NQ/TW.
