The conference approved Plan No. 126 of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to implement the arrangement of administrative units and build a model of organizing local government at 2 levels of Kien Giang province; Plan No. 127 of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to collect voters' opinions on the project to reorganize Kien Giang province and An Giang province and the project to reorganize commune-level administrative units of Kien Giang province in 2025.
According to the Draft Project on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units, Kien Giang province aims to arrange and reorganize the province's grassroots administrative units with 48 grassroots administrative units. Including 3 special areas: Phu Quoc, Tho Chau, Kien Hai; 4 wards are Rach Gia, Vinh Thong, Ha Tien, To Chau and 41 communes. Thus, Kien Giang will decrease by 66.43% - compared to the current 143 commune-level administrative units.
The number of commune-level administrative units that do not undertake the arrangement is 6, of which 2 commune-level administrative units meet the standards and do not have to undertake the arrangement; There are 4 commune-level administrative units that do not undertake the arrangement due to specific factors such as Tho Chau (Phu Quoc City), Tien Hai Commune (Ha Tien City), Hon Nghe Commune, Son Hai Commune (Kien Luong District).
The Provincial People's Committee requires the correct determination of the scope and subjects of collecting opinions, organizing collecting voters' opinions in accordance with the characteristics of the population, ensuring safety, economy, efficiency, democratic publicity and in accordance with the provisions of law.
According to the Plan, Kien Giang will collect voters' opinions from April 23 to 25, 2025. Approving the People's Council at the commune level on April 26, 2025, approving the People's Council at the district level on April 27, 2025. Approving the People's Council of Kien Giang province on April 28, 2025; completing the project dossier to submit to the Central Government on April 29, 2025.
The draft establishes Rach Gia ward on the basis of merging 9 wards of Rach Gia city, including: Vinh Thanh, Vinh Thanh Van, Vinh Quang, Vinh Lac, Vinh Hiep, An Hoa, An Binh, Rach Soi, Vinh Loi.
Establish Vinh Thong ward on the basis of merging Vinh Thong ward and Phi Thong commune (under Rach Gia city) and My Lam commune (hon Dat district).
Establish Ha Tien ward on the basis of merging 4 wards of Ha Tien city: My Duc, Dong Ho, Phao Dai, Binh San.
Establish To Chau ward on the basis of merging To Chau ward and Thuan Yen commune under Ha Tien city and Duong Hoa commune (under Kien Luong district).
