4 coal-fired power plants proposed by Quang Ninh province to be added to the plan include: Cam Pha 3 Thermal Power Plant, capacity 660 MW; Dam Ha Thermal Power Plant, capacity 1.320 MW; Geleximco Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant, capacity 2.460 MW; Quang Ninh 3 Thermal Power Plant, capacity 1.320 MW.

Currently, in Quang Ninh, there are 7 coal-fired power plants, with a total capacity of 5,640 MW, located in the area of the old Ha Long, Cam Pha and Dong Trieu cities.

8 solar power plants proposed to be added to the plan include: Quang Ninh solar power plant, capacity 700 MW; An Sinh solar power plant, capacity 250 MW; Son Duong solar power plant, capacity 250 MW; Trang Luong solar power plant, capacity 600 MW; Trang Vinh lake solar power plant, capacity 200 MW; Cao Van lake solar power plant, capacity 50–100 MW; Chuc Bai Son lake solar power plant, capacity 100–250 MW; Uong Bi high-tech solar power plant (combined with aquaculture), capacity 49 MW.

Quang Ninh province also proposed to add to the planning Quang Ninh 2 LNG gas power plant, capacity 1,500 MW and Binh Lieu 2 wind power plant, capacity 200 MW; Wind power plant in Van Don Special Zone, capacity 700 MW; Industrial solid waste incineration system generating electricity 10 MW in Khe Giang area, Uong Bi ward.

According to the adjusted National Power Development Plan for the period 2021–2030, vision to 2050 of the Government and Decision No. 1509/QD-BCT dated May 30, 2025 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on approving the Plan to implement the adjusted National Power Development Plan for the period 2021–2030, vision to 2050, regarding power sources, Quang Ninh province is planned for 29 projects.

These projects include: onshore and near-shore wind power; concentrated solar power; rooftop solar power; waste power; biomass power; hydropower; LNG gas power; cogeneration and offshore wind power. Of which, 21 projects, with a total capacity of 3,502 MW, in the 2025–2030 period and 8 projects, with a total capacity of 6,684 MW, in the 2031–2035 period.

Regarding the power grid, Quang Ninh province is planned for 38 220 kV and 500 kV power grid projects. Of which, 27 projects are in the 2025–2030 period and 11 projects are in the 2031–2035 period.

To date, Quang Ninh province has selected investors for 6/21 power source projects, accounting for 61.8% of the planned capacity in the 2025–2030 period.

The province has been and is implementing 7 transmission grid projects; of which, 3/7 projects are under construction and 4/7 projects are in the process of investment preparation.
