Special features of the most remote special zone in Kien Giang after the reorganization

Recently, the People's Council of Kien Giang province passed a draft resolution on agreeing on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units (ADUs) of Kien Giang province in 2025.

After the arrangement, the province has 48 commune-level administrative units, including 41 communes, 4 wards and 3 special zones (Phu Quoc, Kien Hai, Tho Chau). Of which, Tho Chau is the special zone with the farthest location in the province.

The project of arrangement of communal wealth of Kien Giang province has stated that the establishment of the Special Zone of Tho Chau on the basis of the status quo of the entire natural area is 13.98 km2 and the population size is 1,896 people of Tho Chau island commune in Phu Quoc City. Adjacent administrative units are adjacent to the East Sea, where the headquarters are located at the headquarters of the existing People's Committee of Tho Chau commune.

Tho Chau island commune is an archipelago (Tho Chu archipelago) very far away from the mainland and is a commune -level DVHC under Phu Quoc City. After reviewing current legal regulations, carefully considering and studying the arrangement plan and organizing to collect voters' opinions according to regulations, Kien Giang province named the grassroots level administrative unit "Tho Chau Special Zone". The naming of ADUs is in line with historical factors, this is also a place that has existed for a long time, easy to read, easy to remember and easy to identify.
