Da Nang - Surveying and collecting witness opinions to verify information about 17 remains believed to be martyrs discovered in 1994 in Hiep Duc commune.

On the afternoon of July 29, in Hiep Duc commune, Da Nang city, the Military Command (CHQS) of Da Nang city organized a conference to survey and collect witness opinions to verify information about 17 remains believed to be martyrs.

Colonel Do Nguyen Hoai, Deputy Political Commissar of the City Military Command, chaired the conference. Attending were representatives of leaders of the Party Committee, People's Committee, Military Command of Hiep Duc commune and two witnesses Tran Thi Thanh Hai and Dang Ngoc Nga.

According to witnesses, in 1994, during the leveling of the ground for the construction of the Hiep Duc District Cultural House (old), the construction unit discovered a burial pit containing 17 sets of remains and many artifacts such as clothes, rubber sandals, shoes, AK rifles and M79 rifles.

After receiving the information, the Military Command of Hiep Duc district sent officers to inspect and verify. However, because at that time there was not enough basis to conclude that it was a martyr's remains, the repatriation to the martyrs' cemetery was not organized.

All the remains were then relocated and buried by Mr. Vo Dinh The (businessman in Ho Chi Minh City), from Duy Tan commune, Da Nang city, at the foot of Tranh hill, An Dong village, Hiep Duc commune. By 2019, the remains were continued to be moved to Go Cao area, Thu Bon commune to build graves and worship.

Concluding the conference, Colonel Do Nguyen Hoai requested specialized agencies to urgently review and compare dossiers and documents; closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities, witnesses and relevant units to verify the origin, clarify each content, and not to miss valuable information.

Based on the results of collection and verification, the unit will advise on organizing workshops, completing dossiers and implementing the next steps in accordance with regulations.

It is expected that on August 5, Hiep Duc Commune People's Committee will organize a workshop, inviting relevant witnesses to provide more information and documents to further clarify the origin of the remains, serving the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains, meeting the expectations of relatives and people.
