19 parks and flower gardens expected to be built in Long Bien

In the Draft Project on Management and Development of a system of trees, parks, flower gardens, and water surfaces in the city, the Hanoi People's Committee said that the whole city currently has 70 urban parks and flower gardens of all kinds (including 23 parks and 47 flower gardens), with 11 parks with a scale of 10 hectares to over 15 hectares.

The inner city area has 20 urban parks with a total area of about 293.8 hectares; there are 38 flower gardens with a total area of about 39.64 hectares.

The suburban area has 3 urban parks with a total area of 31.57 hectares; there are 9 urban flower gardens with an area of about 11.58 hectares.

According to the City People's Committee, the inner city area has a high population but the park area is lower than the planning standards. Suburban districts lack urban-level infrastructure for parks and flower gardens; and urban-level public green space is still very limited.

Many urban flower gardens are degraded, do not have lighting, irrigation water, and convenient walking paths, so they cannot fully exploit their community service functions. The socialization of investment in parks and flower gardens still has many limitations and has not achieved the desired results.

Based on the survey results, the current parks and flower gardens are for urban purposes, so they are mainly concentrated in the old inner-city districts of Hanoi and areas adjacent to the inner-city area such as Nam Tu Liem and Bac Tu Liem (old) districts, especially the two old districts of Ba Dinh and Hoan Kiem with about 10 parks and flower gardens.

Parks and flower gardens are concentrated in residential areas (accounting for about 46% of the total number of parks and flower gardens, such as Truc Bach flower garden, Indira Buddha park, Ba Mau park, Tang Bat Ho flower garden, Dinh Cong flower garden, Den Lu park...), cultural, economic and political centers (accounting for about 28% such as Bach Thao park, Le-nin flower garden, Ly Thai To flower garden, Dien Hong flower garden...), the rest are associated with areas with natural landscapes (accounting for about 21% such as flower gardens in Thanh Nien street, Ho Tay water park...).

Compared with the Urban Public Use Green Planning Standard (VGCL 362005) the scale of regional parks must reach 10 hectares or more. Currently, the number of parks with a scale of over 10 hectares is about 11 parks (accounting for 17%), in particular, some urban parks such as West Lake Water Park have an area of only about 6 hectares, mostly small flower gardens with a scale of less than 1 hectare.

The existing large parks such as Thu Le and Bach Thao parks (old Ba Dinh district), Thong Nhat, Tuoi Tre (old Hai Ba Trung district) with an area of 10-50 hectares, along with natural water surface areas associated with open space, flower gardens, walking paths around the lake such as West Lake, Truc Bach Lake, Giang Vo Lake, Ngoc Khanh Lake... have contributed to creating a landscape and improving the micro-climate for the area.

In particular, parks such as Thu Le, Thong Nhat, and Tuoi Tre have had plans to renovate and upgrade in a civilized and modern direction, increase facilities, and meet the rapidly increasing demand for entertainment and recreation.

It is expected that from now until 2030, the city will build 343 parks and flower gardens.
