LD26238: 7-year-old girl needs liver transplant costing more than 400 million VND, family asks for help

PHƯƠNG AN (báo lao động) 14/10/2026 08:23 (GMT+7)

Baby Nguyen Kim Tuyen has a liver transplant scheduled for October 19th, but the cost is still a difficult problem for the family.

Everyone who gives birth wants their child to be born healthy, grow up peacefully with their family, but for Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu (born in 1990, residing in Vinh Thanh hamlet, Nga 5 ward, Can Tho city), that simple wish soon became years of taking her child to the hospital, getting treatment time and time again.

Ms. Kieu said that when she was only 2 months old, her daughter, baby Nguyen Kim Tuyen (born 2019), was diagnosed with congenital gallbladder atrophy and had to undergo Kasai surgery at Children's Hospital 2 (Ho Chi Minh City). Although the surgery was successful, for the past 7 years, baby Tuyen has still had to be hospitalized for regular treatment due to unstable health.

About 4 months ago, Kim Tuyen's health deteriorated. She had to be hospitalized for treatment at Children's Hospital 2, her liver had F3 level cirrhosis. She also had complications of pulmonary hypertension, anemia, and lack of oxygen, causing her lips, ears and area around her mouth to often turn purple.

Before the baby's condition, doctors prescribed liver transplantation. After being consulted, Ms. Kieu went for tests and fortunately, her liver was compatible with her child's liver, so she could donate a part of her liver to her child. However, Ms. Kieu does not know where to get money to save her child, because it is a huge amount of money for her family.

My child has been sick since he was 2 months old, my family has tried to treat him for many years. Now my child's illness has worsened, the doctor ordered a liver transplant on October 19th, but the cost is more than 400 million VND. That amount of money is really too much for my family," Ms. Kieu shared.

Sharing about her family situation, Ms. Kieu said that she and her husband do not have a house, no land, and currently have to rent a boarding house to live in. Previously, her child was sick, so she had to stay home to take care of her child. About 2 years ago, she applied to work as a worker at a factory. But since her child's illness became severe, she could not go to work regularly, only working about 5-10 days a month. The rest of the time, she stayed at the hospital to take care of her child.

Knowing her family circumstances, the company also created conditions for her to quit her job when needed, but the lack of stable income made life even more difficult.

Her husband, Mr. Le Van Can (born 1986), works as a construction worker, with unstable income. In recent years, she and her husband have tried to work hard, saving every penny to take care of their children, but prolonged treatment costs have gradually bankrupted the family's economy. Therefore, before the estimated cost of liver transplantation of more than 400 million VND, her family could not manage.

I hope everyone will pity my child's situation, join hands to help him have enough liver transplant costs, continue treatment to have the opportunity to grow up healthy like other children," Ms. Kieu choked up.

Talking about Ms. Kieu's family situation, Mr. Le Minh Tan, Head of the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh hamlet area (Nga 5 ward, Can Tho city), said that her and her husband's life was already difficult, now her daughter is seriously ill and has to be treated for many years, so the family's economy is even more difficult.

Ms. Kieu's family is really very difficult, the couple has no house or land, income is precarious, while Kim Tuyen has been ill since childhood, has been treated for many years and is in need of a liver transplant with very high costs. The family's current circumstances cannot manage this amount of money on their own. Therefore, we really hope philanthropists, benefactors and readers near and far will pay attention, share, and support Ms. Kieu's family to have more treatment costs, so that she has the opportunity to have a liver transplant and continue her life," Mr. Le Minh Tan shared.
