Tet markets organized by Trade Unions and businesses in Northern Ho Chi Minh City are helping workers far from home save costs and alleviate difficulties at the end of the year.

Spreading Trade Union Tet market

The North of Ho Chi Minh City attracts many businesses producing export goods and concentrates a large number of workers. Among them, most are migrant workers, still renting rooms, and their lives are still hard. During Tet, many expenses make the lives of workers even more stressful.

Understanding the concerns of workers far from home, the Trade Unions of communes and wards in the North of Ho Chi Minh City have implemented many activities to take care of Tet for union members and workers. Among them, noteworthy are the Trade Union Tet fairs organized in areas with a large number of workers. Mr. Luu The Thuan - Chairman of Bau Bang Commune Trade Union - said that in addition to giving gifts to support workers in difficult circumstances, the Commune Trade Union also organized a "spring fair" to provide Tet consumer goods at prices ranging from 5-25% for union members and workers in the area.

Similarly, in wards with many workers such as Tay Nam ward, Binh Co ward, Tan Hiep ward..., the ward trade union also organizes Tet fairs for workers to go shopping. The trade union mobilizes philanthropists to give shopping vouchers to workers in difficult circumstances. At the same time, it mobilizes businesses to sell discounted goods to union members. The fairs have attracted thousands of workers to shop for goods.

From Tet markets organized by the ward trade union, it has spread to businesses. Many businesses have sponsored funds for grassroots trade unions (CĐCS) to organize Tet markets for workers. The "0-dong Tet market" program is prominent at Asia-Pacific Door Industry Co., Ltd. The program is organized at 2 facilities in Binh Co and Tan Hiep wards. About 1,500 workers benefited, of which about 1,350 are union members and workers working at Asia-Pacific Door Industry Co., Ltd. and 150 are workers and people in difficult circumstances renting rooms in Tan Hiep and Binh Co wards.

Participating in the 0-dong fair, workers were given vouchers to buy many items such as: rice, dried fish, fish sauce, MSG, cooking oil, sugar, cakes, coffee,... Ms. Le Thi Huong - Chairwoman of the grassroots trade union of Cua Y A Chau Industrial Co., Ltd. - said that in order to share difficulties with workers, the grassroots trade union has proposed that the company sponsor funds to organize the "0-dong Tet Fair". The program brought joy to 1,500,000 workers, each person was given 1 voucher worth 600,000 VND.

“I have noticed recently that some other companies have few orders, workers do not have overtime, and their lives are still tight. Meanwhile, during Tet, workers need to spend and shop more. Therefore, the company and the grassroots trade union have organized this program for workers at the company and also for workers in difficult circumstances outside. Through the program, I want to share love with workers who are still facing many difficulties,” Ms. Le Thi Huong informed.

Workers reduce costs

Going to trade fairs organized by trade unions at all levels, workers are all happy and excited, feeling respected and shared. Workers buy many consumer goods at reasonable prices, and many people are also supported with vouchers to go to the 0 VND market.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (52 years old, from Dong Thap, working at Cua Y A Chau Technology Co., Ltd.) is one of the workers who received a 0 VND shopping voucher. Ms. Thuy said that this year her job and income are stable. However, because she is renting a room, she has to support her elderly parents on both sides and take care of her family, so life is still difficult.

My husband and I are far from home and living in Ho Chi Minh City, so there are still many difficulties. Thanks to the trade union organizing many care activities, life is also less difficult. I find this 0 VND Tet market program very meaningful both materially and spiritually. We feel respected and shared. We thank the company and the grassroots trade union a lot," Ms. Thuy expressed.
