Admissions trend in 2025, increase quotas, add new majors
Many universities have announced their enrollment plans for 2025. The general trend is to increase enrollment targets and open new training majors.
Increasing enrollment targets
This year, Hanoi National University enrolls 20,285 full-time university students for 12 member schools, an increase of 2,285 targets compared to last year. Of which, the University of Technology was assigned the highest enrollment quota with 3,900 quotas (an increase of 940 quotas). Next are the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with 2,650 targets (increased by 350 targets); the University of Economics with 2,500 targets (increased by 150 targets) and the University of Foreign Languages with 2,400 targets (increased by 400 targets).
Many other top universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National University of Education, Foreign Trade University, and the Academy of Finance also plan to increase enrollment targets in 2025.
Not only increasing enrollment targets, the trend of schools is to expand admission combinations.
For example, the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi increased to 6 combinations, with 2 new combinations: Math, English, Informatics and Math, Physics, Informatics. These two combinations are used for all majors/training programs of the school...
Or at Hanoi University, this year the school added 3 new admission combinations: Russian Language, Portuguese Language and Information Technology. These combinations increase opportunities for candidates, create more enrollment sources for some majors, and are also suitable for the combination of subjects and graduation exam subjects of the new high school program.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of the Department of Communication and Admissions, University of Commerce - said that in addition to maintaining traditional combinations, the school has added new admission combinations related to elective subjects for high school graduation exams, including: Math, English, plus elective subjects: History, Geography, IT, Technology, Economic and Legal Education.
Opportunities for candidates from new training majors
A notable new point in the enrollment information of the University of Commerce in 2025 is that the school will develop 7 more international career-oriented training programs, aiming to equip students with both professional skills and foreign language skills when graduating, and to participate in the international labor market.
"The school also plans to have 2 more international marketing and Business Administration programs, 1 advanced technology transfer program" - Mr. Trung said and added that the updating and innovation of the training program is carried out continuously, associated with practice to approach the needs set by businesses.
At the Academy of Finance, this year, the unit plans to open new majors in the standard program, including: Political Economics - Finance; Economic Law; Financial Mathematics; Data Science in Finance; Artificial Intelligence in Finance and Accounting.
9 new majors in the international certificate orientation program include: Banking; Financial Investment; Tax and tax administration; Management and Control Accounting; Public Accounting; Real Estate Valuation and Business; International Business; Corporate Governance; Investment Economics.
Dr. Trinh Thanh Huyen - Director of the International Training Institute, Academy of Finance informed that from the 2025 - 2026 school year, the joint training program between the Academy of Finance and the University of Greenwich (UK) will have more Start-up subjects in the training program.
After having knowledge of corporate finance, students will learn how to write a startup plan. In addition, students studying this program will have many practical experiences, get acquainted with the labor market early and easily get into the rhythm of work after graduation.
Similarly, the University of Mining and Geology also plans to open 6 new training majors in the 2025 enrollment season, including: English Language, Chinese Language, Materials Engineering, Space Engineering, Urban and Construction Management; Mineral Resources Management.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Head of Public Relations and Business, University of Mining and Geology - explained: "The school's opening of a new major is based on surveys of stakeholders, especially practical job position needs, meeting the development of the economy and society".
Mr. Ha added that the school will make some adjustments to the admission method. Specifically, the school uses the results of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment, in addition to the thinking assessment test score of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
2025 is the first year that students take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, the content of the exam and the university admission regulations have many changes. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, this year many universities have changed their admission combinations, so the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training are also flexible. The Deputy Minister acknowledged that these changes aim to create the best conditions for students, building a more fair, transparent and favorable environment in the process of taking exams and admission.
