Responding to hot weather, many construction sites in Quang Ninh adjust working hours

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in recent days, the Northeast region has been cloudy, hot sunny days, especially hot in some places; the highest temperature is commonly 37-40 degrees Celsius, in some places above 40 degrees Celsius.

In Quang Ninh, on May 26, the highest temperature was commonly 35-37 degrees Celsius. Due to the influence of the hot low pressure area in the West operating strongly, on May 27, many areas in the province continued to have hot sun, the highest temperature was commonly 35-37 degrees Celsius, relative humidity was low (from 50-55%).

Hot weather combined with reduced air humidity can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat shock for people working outdoors for a long time.

Faced with the above situation, many units in Quang Ninh have proactively adjusted working hours, supplemented drinking water, and improved mid-shift rest conditions for workers.

At the riverside road project connecting from Ha Long - Hai Phong expressway to Dong Trieu, one of the key projects of Quang Ninh province, contractors are accelerating construction progress to complete the project in 2026.

Dong Thuan Ha Co., Ltd., the contractor for package No. 8 of the project, has adjusted the working time outside the site.

Workers work from 6 am to 10 am, rest to avoid the sun, then work the afternoon shift from 2 pm.

At Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company, due to the specific characteristics of production in open-pit mining areas directly affected by weather, the Company's Trade Union has coordinated to review working conditions, mid-shift rest places, cooling systems and the need to supplement heat-resistant equipment at units.

Based on proposals from the grassroots level, the Trade Union of Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company has supported many essential items such as heating tanks, ice trays, fans, air conditioners and equipment for living in the workplace.

Equipment is prioritized for direct production units, areas with heavy working conditions and high temperatures.

Mr. Le Quang Loi, Chairman of the Trade Union of Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company, said that in the face of prolonged hot weather, the Company's Trade Union has coordinated to supplement heat protection equipment and improve working conditions with a total cost of more than 40 million VND. The Company also issued regulations to supplement 5,000 VND/meal between shifts on hot sunny days; and at the same time applied an incentive salary mechanism for workers directly working outdoors, affected by hot weather, with a 10% increase in product salary.

Meanwhile, severe heat also caused the demand for cooling equipment to increase sharply, and the power grid load in Quang Ninh increased. Quang Ninh Power Company has implemented many solutions to ensure safe and stable power supply for production, business and people's lives.

Operating units use thermal cameras to check the temperature of contact points and transformers during peak hours; maintain command and operation duty 24/7; prepare spare materials, specialized vehicles and incident handling forces at key locations.

In harsh weather conditions, the unit requested on-site workers to strictly comply with safety procedures, fully equip themselves with labor protection, and have heat protection measures when operating on the power grid.
