Vietnam - Thailand promote private economic sector cooperation
Vietnam - Thailand attach importance to promoting private economic sector cooperation; strive to soon reach a bilateral trade turnover of 25 billion USD per year.
At noon on May 28, in Bangkok capital, General Secretary and President To Lam and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with the press to announce the results of the talks.
Speaking at a press conference, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the two leaders exchanged openly and frankly and agreed on the direction of promoting cooperation in all fields within the scope of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to cooperate more closely to respond to the instability and fluctuations of the current world economic situation, in which they attach importance to promoting private economic sector cooperation between the two sides; striving to soon achieve the target of bilateral trade turnover of 25 billion USD per year.
In the coming time, the two sides will focus on cooperating to strengthen energy security, science, technology, innovation, biotechnology and agriculture; affirming that the two sides can cooperate to develop and promote the economy in the Mekong sub-region.
The Thai Prime Minister expressed his belief that the results of the talks will continue to consolidate and strengthen the friendship, trust, and cooperation between the two countries, contributing to bringing benefits to the people of the two countries.
Speaking at a press meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam said that the leaders of the two countries had a very successful meeting and achieved many positive, comprehensive and substantive results.
The two sides highly appreciated the positive developments of Vietnam-Thailand relations in the recent past. On that basis, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on directions and measures to make Vietnam-Thailand relations increasingly strong, sustainable and effective.
The two sides agreed to continue to further deepen political trust, considering it a political foundation for long-term and close relations between the two countries; promote high-level exchanges and contacts at all levels and sectors across all channels, improve the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms; maintain and promote the effectiveness of defense and security cooperation mechanisms.
The two sides committed to strengthening cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crime; promoting negotiations and signing bilateral legal cooperation agreements, and reaffirming their commitment not to allow any individuals or organizations to use the territory of one country against another.
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the two sides will promote cooperation in potential fields such as clean energy, digital economy, green economy, innovation, high-tech agriculture, promote connectivity of transport and logistics infrastructure, effectively utilize economic corridors in the Mekong sub-region, especially the East-West economic corridor, creating favorable conditions for the flow of goods and services between the two countries and in the region.
