60 thousand more air tickets will be added for the Lunar New Year
On January 14, Vietnam Airlines announced that it will open for sale about 60,000 more air tickets with nearly 300 flights during the Lunar New Year.
Vietnam Airlines will focus on opening peak airfares from February 9 to March 3, 2026, i.e. from December 22 to the full moon of the first lunar month. The increase in capacity is to serve the needs of travel, sightseeing and spring travel of passengers across the country during Tet.
The routes with increased capacity in this period mainly depart from Ho Chi Minh City, including routes to Hanoi, Vinh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon and Phu Quoc. These are air routes with great demand during the Lunar New Year, especially the North-South routes and air routes connecting the region.
In addition, Vietnam Airlines also opened the sale of 4 more routes departing from Hai Phong, including Hai Phong - Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot and Phu Quoc. The addition of these routes contributes to diversifying passenger travel options, while reducing pressure on routes during the peak of Tet.
According to Vietnam Airlines, proactively adding the supply capacity in a short time shows the readiness of resources, exploitation capacity as well as the airline's peak service spirit, to ensure safe, convenient and smooth travel needs for passengers during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year.
During the peak period, Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers proactively plan, book and buy tickets early through the Vietnam Airlines website, mobile application or ticket system, and official agents of the airline. Passengers are also encouraged to check in online within 24 hours before departure via website, mobile application, VNeID, hotline or at self-processing counters at the airport.
In particular, passengers are encouraged to use biometric technology during the procedure to shorten waiting time. Passengers who have completed online or biometric procedures and do not carry checked baggage can go directly to the security screening area, contributing to reducing the load at the airport during peak hours.
Previously, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung signed and issued a Directive on ensuring safety and quality of aviation transportation services to serve the 14th National Congress of the Party and the peak of the Lunar New Year 2026.
According to the Directive, the first months of 2026 are the time for the 14th National Congress of the Party, a particularly important political event of the country. At the same time, the travel demand of people and international visitors is forecast to increase sharply during the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo and the 2026 Spring Festival season.
To operate air transport smoothly, safely, civilly and effectively, the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires agencies and units in the industry to uphold the spirit of responsibility, service attitude, and focus on synchronously implementing solutions to ensure transportation activities and quality of aviation services.
For Vietnamese airlines, the Director requested proactive market forecasting, developing plans to organize passenger transport, optimizing the efficiency of operating the fleet and flight schedule, and strictly complying with confirmed Slot. Airlines need to closely monitor the situation of booking and ticket sales to promptly adjust plans, increase flights on routes with high demand; ensure maintenance and technical repair of aircraft; minimize delayed flights or cancellations due to technical reasons.
In addition, airlines must strictly implement legal regulations on domestic air transport prices, organize ticket sales in the correct price range, publicly and transparently; increase propaganda for passengers to buy tickets through official distribution channels; check and supervise ticket sales activities of agents and handle violations.
For Vietnam Airports Corporation, Van Don International Airport and Phu Quoc, the Director requested the development of a service plan, increase human resources, ensure infrastructure, equipment, means, especially conditions for serving night flights; closely coordinate with relevant units to optimize the exploitation of terminals, airports, and runways, and avoid congestion at airports during peak season.
