Quang Binh - The new province after the merger is expected to have more than 1.8 million people, 78 communes, and administrative centers located in Quang Binh.

On the afternoon of April 17, in Dong Hoi City, the Standing Committee of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee held a conference to deploy the next steps in the roadmap for arranging and merging provincial-level administrative units. This is an important conference to concretize the resolutions and conclusions of the Central Committee on streamlining the apparatus and building two-level local governments.

It is expected that the new province after the merger will have an area of nearly 12,700km2, a population of more than 1.8 million people and 78 commune-level administrative units. Of which, Quang Binh has 41 commune levels (5 wards, 36 communes); Quang Tri has 37 commune levels (3 wards, 33 communes and 1 special zone).

The administrative - political center is located in Quang Binh province. Quang Binh is also the locality that will preside over and coordinate with Quang Tri province to develop a merger project to submit to the Government before May 1, 2025.

The two provinces have agreed to establish a joint Steering Committee of 34 members, headed by Quang Binh Provincial Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang, and co-headed by Quang Tri Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Long Hai.

The Steering Committee will develop a project to organize the apparatus, improve personnel, work headquarters, count assets and develop a plan to arrange work for civil servants after the merger.

One of the contents of special attention is support for civil servants from Quang Tri province after the merger. At the conference, delegates clearly stated their thoughts and aspirations related to travel, public housing, and living away from home when working at the new administrative center.

Quang Binh Provincial Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang affirmed that supporting civil servants is an urgent and legitimate requirement. Quang Binh will coordinate with Quang Tri to discuss reasonable solutions to solve this problem, have a common policy on public housing, and policies to support civil servants working away from home.

He also emphasized that absolutely do not let the discriminatory ideology of "your province - your province" arise, to avoid affecting the spirit of solidarity and unity.

The conference agreed to assign the Organizing Committee and the Department of Home Affairs of the two provinces to coordinate in advising on the issuance of a decision to establish a Steering Committee and specialized working groups.

The two localities committed to completing the dossier of the Merger Project, organizing the collection of public opinions according to the correct process and reporting to the Government as soon as possible.
